Kirkcaldy hotel Thistle Cottage, completed in 2009, offers luxury, spacious, 4 star, self catering accommodation, suitable for sleeping six adults, just outside the village of Upper Largo, gateway to the East Neuk of Fife.

We are 15 minutes away from historic St. Andrews, and in an ideal position for a golfing holiday with over 20 courses within easy traveling distance. Situated on a working farm at the foot of Largo Law we have beautiful scenery over looking Largo Bay, Elie Point and beyond.

Thistle Cottage Accommodation

To make the most of our panoramic views over the river Forth and the Fife and Lothian countryside, the living accommodation is on the first floor. On a clear day from the balcony of Thistle Cottage you will see the magnificent coast line view across the Firth of Forth, from Edinburgh round to St. Abbs Head.

We are in a wonderful, peaceful spot to relax and watch the world go by, but if you are feeling energetic then take a walk up Largo Law, or along Largo beach and then relax in the ambient temperature of your own private hot tub.

For your entertainment we have installed a 50” TV, DVD player and a Wii, with an in house entertainment system in the public rooms. You won’t be left out if you can’t manage the stairs as we have installed a stair lift so that our property is accessible to all. There is ample car parking space with a ramp to the front door directly from the car park.

Thistle Cottage has all the facilities you will need for an enjoyable holiday. There are six single beds in three bedrooms with bed linen and towels provided. One of the bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom with a bath, shower, WC and bidet. The other two bedrooms share a separate shower room.

The fully fitted kitchen has a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, four ring hob and oven.

Attractions
Visitors to Fife will find plenty to occupy their days. The area is most famous for St. Andrews, the home of golf and the fishing villages of the East Neuk. The historic capital city of Edinburgh is a must for visitors to the area. It is famous for its Fringe Festival and Military Tattoo in August or visit the castle and Holyrood Palace.

Other places of interest in the area well worth a visit are Stirling. Perth and Glasgow. All are easily accessible from the Largo area.

Whether you want a family day out, a relaxing short break or a holiday packed with sports and activities, there is never a dull moment in the Kingdom of Fife. Ancient castles, cathedrals, museums, gardens, theatres, golfing, horse riding, karting, quad biking, ten bin bowling, farm shops, boat trips, clay target shooting, walking, cycling, sky diving, award winning restaurants and fish and chip shops, the list is endless for an action packed holiday.

There are over 40 golf courses in the Kingdom of Fife, all within easy access of Largo and the heart of the Royal and Ancient game, St. Andrews, with its 8 courses is nearby.

Walk to the top of Largo Law and admire the panoramic views or walk to the beach and join the Fife Coastal Path which stretches around Fife’s coastline from the Royal Burgh of Culross to the Tay Bridge.

The Kingdom of Fife Cycle Way has a network of over 300 miles of dedicated cycle tours offering something for everyone, including an 8.5mile off – road section along a disused railway line.

St. Andrews Castle, St. Andrews Cathedral, Falkland Palace and Gardens, Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse and Gardens, Cupar: Kellie Castle and Garden, Pittenweem; Scotstarvit Tower, Ceres; St Fillan’s Caves, Pittenweem; St Monans Windmill, St Athernase Church, Leuchars; Balmerino Abbey, Culross Palace.

Famous restaurants include The Peat Inn, Sangsters, Ostlers Close, The Cellar and of course the 2008 award winning Anstruther Fish & Chip Restaurant.

DIRECTIONS
Getting there from the Information Centre:

From the TIC on Market Street, St. Andrews turn left onto North Street. Continue along North Street until you come to a roundabout and take the 1st exit onto the A915/City Road. Continue out of St. Andrews on the A915 going straight through all roundabouts.

Follow the A915 for approximately 9 miles. You go round a couple of bad bends with a farm on the right then start to go down a hill. After you have passed Monturpie Guest House on the left hand side we are just a little further down the hill on the right. You will see signs for Chesterstone Farm and Thistle Cottage at the bottom of the drive.

Getting There by Car:
Follow signs to the Forth Road Bridge. After crossing the bridge exit at junction 2a onto the A92 – signposted Kirkcaldy. At the first roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A921 and the take the 1st exit at the next roundabout onto the A915.

Continue on the A915 through Leven and Lundin Links until you get to Upper Largo. In the middle of the village you have to turn left towards St. Andrews (also the A915) . We are half a mile on this road on the left hand side. You will see signs for Chesterstone Farm and Thistle Cottage at the bottom of the drive.

Getting There by Railway:
Scotrail, Virgin Trains or GNER all stop at Kirkcaldy station and you can then continue the journey by bus from Kirkcaldy bus station. The X26 and X60 service both stop in the village of Upper Largo which is half a mile away.

Getting there by Aeroplane:
The nearest airport is Edinburgh International - approx 45 minutes by car. Hertz, Avis and Europcar all hire cars from Edinburgh. Follow the signs as you leave the airport for the Forth Road Bridge and then follow the car directions above. Alternatively take a bus into Waverley Station and travel the rest of the way by rail and bus.

Getting There by Ferry:
The nearest ferry port is Roysth. Follow the signs as you leave the port for the M90 towards Perth, Dundee, Kirkcaldy, and join the M90. At junction 2a exit onto the A92, and follow the instructions by car above.
