Killin hotel Welcome to Bridge Park Cottage which is situated in Glen Lochay, just half a mile outside the village of Killin in Perthshire, Scotland, and so is in easy reach of the local shops and amenities.

It stands in the middle of a large sunny garden laid mainly to lawn and well stocked with shrubs and trees. There are glorious uninterrupted views up the glen from the garden with the river Lochay 50 yards away across a meadow and makes ideal accommodation for holidays in Scotland.

Bridge Park Cottage is situated in the wonderfully secluded Glen Lochay, close to the River Lochay whose crystal waters, together with those of the Dochart, feeds Loch Tay half a mile away. The village of Killin is just under a mile from Bridge Park Cottage and is at the western edge of Stirling’ boarder with Perthshire in an area known as the Trossachs.

Bridge Park Cottage Accommodation

The garden offers complete seclusion and tranquillity; often the loudest noise you will hear for days on end will be the sheep in the meadow and the odd estate Land Rover driving up the glen. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided. Please keep the gate closed at all times to keep deer and sheep out.

On the Ground Floor there is a porch, with a small boot room off, leading to the large sunny kitchen which is fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, electric cooker, fridge, ample cupboard space, all the cooking utensils you will need, and a dining table that seats six.

The hall with front door to the garden leads to both the bathroom with shaver point, bath with shower over, basin and toilet and the sitting room with two sofas, occasional tables, telephone and open log fire.

Full oil fired central heating, each radiator controlled by a thermostatic valve, gives warmth throughout and unlimited hot water. The telephone charges calculated for by the ring back service.

Should the weather prove inclement the sitting room is equipped with a colour TV, DVD, video and stereo radio/CD player together with chess, cards, drafts, and backgammon games kept in the box the TV sits on to while away the hours 'till it brightens up outside.

The First Floor has two huge bedrooms, one with a double bed, wardrobe, dressing table and cot. The other twin bedded with a fitted wardrobe and large chest of drawers and hanging space. The third bedroom is small with single bed, chest of drawers and hanging space.

Duvets and pillows are provided but bed linen and towels are available for hire if required. Extra blankets are kept in the cupboard on the first floor. Towels are available. One of the two sofas in the sitting room is a sofa bed and there is also a "Z" bed to put up in the second bedroom if required. Bridge Park Cottage sleeps five/six comfortably.

The property will be available for occupation from 3pm on the first day of your holiday and must be vacated by 10am on the last day.

Pet Policy
Only one, well-behaved pet will normally be allowed.

The bustling village of Killin is not far away and yet the road up Glen Lochay is little used and offers 6 miles of easy walking. Near the top of the glen there is a road over to the adjacent Glen Lyon with its spectacular Loch Lyon Reservoir. Loch Tay is a short walk in the other direction with a full range of water sports. There is also a charming 9-hole golf course.

Attractions and Activities

The road to Killin from Lochearnhead climbs through Glen Ogle and enters the village over a narrow multi arched stone bridge, by the famous Falls of Dochart, from which can be seen the island of Inchbuie where the clan McNab had an ancient burial ground.

Kinnell House was their seat and a well preserved prehistoric standing stone circle can be seen there. Most of the clan emigrated to Canada during the Clearances.

Near the falls stand the eight Healing Stones of the 8th century St. Fillan. Each stone represents the part of the body it was supposed to heal and the Breadalbane Folk law Centre gives audio-visual displays of this and many other legends of the High Country of Scotland as the area was known.

At the eastern end of the village are the ruins of the Campbell stronghold of Finlarig Castle that is close to the Killin Golf Club which is said to have the most scenic closing hole in Britain.

The village maintains an air of charm and tranquillity. It has a delightful main street with a good selection of shops and places of interest. Details of all the various local activities can be obtained from the Scottish Tourist Board’s visitors centre.

Dr McCulloch, a respected authority on Highland Scenery described Killin as “the most extraordinary collection of extraordinary scenery in the county and a perfect picture gallery in itself”.

Situated so close to Loch Tay makes Bridge Park Cottage an unrivalled haven for sports. A quiet day sailing on the calm water of the loch, a round of golf, horse riding through the forests and glens, clay shooting, scuba diving, hill walking, bicycling or fishing (Permits provided) all are available.

Ben Lawers, the highest mountain in Perthshire, towers above Loch Tay and is now protected by the National Trust of Scotland. Botanists come to see and study the alpine flora in these mountains.

You can either go and wander by yourselves or try one of the many guided walks, such as the Strathbraan Treks, where a professional guide will provide all the experience and knowledge to help you discover some of Scotland’s many hidden natural treasures.

Local Amenities
There are a variety of local sporting activities in and around Killin such as: Golf, Tennis, Putting, Walking, Cycling, Pony Trekking, Fishing.

Fishing is available on Loch Tay and on local rivers (permits provided). Water sports are available on Loch Tay and also Waterskiing at Lochearnhead. Ben Lawers Nature Reserve is also close by. Other facilities are available in the larger centres of Stirling, Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

DIRECTIONS
Getting there from the Information Centre:

From the tourist office in Killin drive straight through the village and turn left after the bridge of Lochay Hotel, directly over the bridge the cottage is situated about 200 metres down the Glen road on the left.

Getting There by Railway:
From Stirling as per previous directions.From Crianlarich take A85 to Lochearnhead. After approx. 11 miles turn left on A827 to Killin, proceed as per previous directions.

Getting there by Aeroplane:
From Edinburgh take M9 to Stirling junction 10 take A84 to Lochearnhead then A85 for 5 miles turn right onto A827 to KIllin. Through village turn first left after bridge of Lochay Hotel. The cottage is approximately 200 metres down the Glenroad on the left. From Glasgow take M80 and M9 to Stirling then proceed as above.
