Inverurie Hotels Welcome to the ancient and historic Logie Elphinstone House, luxury holiday let, set within its own private estate at the foot of Bennachie. Turrets and a courtyard conjure up a true feeling of romance and tranquility.

Logie Elphinstone House is 17 miles to the west of Aberdeen, near the Royal Burgh of Inverurie and was built in the 1670s on estate lands purchased by Laurence Elphinstone in 1492.

Originally a fortified tower house, extensive modifications took place during the 18th century, to give the magnificent house you see today.

Logie Country House Accommodation

Originally a fortified tower house, built in the 1670s, the house was extensively modified and extended in the 1700's. In it's heyday, it was the centre piece of a 7542 acre estate that dates back to 1492. Today it sits in a more modest 140 acres, having been extensively restored in 2009, following a devastating fire in 1975, that left much of the house in ruin.

The self contained guest wing has its own entrance and is joined to the main house by the tower. It faces south over the courtyard. The accommodation has five bedrooms.

There are two master bedrooms, one with en-suite wet room and the other, en-suite shower room. One master bedroom has a king size bed, the other, superking. There are two large single bedrooms with small double beds and a twin bedroom with two single beds.

Linen, towels & bathrobes are white cotton and bedding is duck down (hypoallergenic available on request). The family bathroom has a walk-in shower and a large free standing bath. Toiletries are also supplied as are flip flops for use outside.

Downstairs, the lounge has an inglenook fire with a wood burning stove, heaps of logs and a 42” TV with SKY and HD. In addition there is a DVD player, with a selection of DVD's and an IPod docking station. There is free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the house.

The open plan kitchen-dining room has all mod cons, including a dishwasher, fridge freezer and 6 hob range cooker with 2 ovens. The dining table seats 10 and there are easy chairs, another 42" TV with XBox 360, Wii and a range of games.

The welcome hamper contains our own free range eggs (if we have managed to find them!), milk, fruit juice, butter, jam, bread, cereal, instant & real coffee, tea, sugar and some wine.

There is a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Child Policy
We have tried to make the accommodation as child friendly as possible. The single bedded rooms have blackout blinds, the kitchen units have child locks, the electric supply is fitted with two RCDs.

We can supply plug blankers, stair gates, cots, buggies, high chairs, baby monitor, bottle steamer, children's plates & cutlery and toys. The courtyard is also fully enclosed.

Pet Policy
We are happy to welcome dogs and can provide dog beds, bedding and bowls. We have some rules if you bring dogs. We can able to accommodate horses with prior notice.

The house is eco-friendly, it is heated by a log burning boiler that uses timber from the surrounding area (currently waste building wood, wind blown trees and dead Elm). The boiler is lit and filled daily.

We hope to install a hydro electric plant to power the entire house from the river too.

In order to make your stay more relaxing and enjoyable, we offer a number of extras:

1. Baby sitting
2. Child minding
3. Daily maid service (To tidy and make beds)
4. Massage and reflexology
5. Chef & catering

Health and Fitness
Outside in the courtyard, the old game store has been converted into a well equipped gym with Nordic track cross trainer, rowing machine, spin bike, vibrating plate and an incline trainer. We also have free weights, skipping ropes and mats.

There is a new Canadian Spa 7/8 person Spa outside the courtyard on a separate screened deck.
The 9 metre infinity pool in the main house is available for the use of guests.

The pool has a lounging area and is UV / Electrode sterilized rather than chlorinated, to minimize irritation and smell. The pool facilities are available for guests use throughout the day (On a near exclusive basis, we will not normally disturb you!), but there are terms of use as the pool is under our bedroom and the hours of use are restricted to ensure that we get some sleep!.

Courtyard at Logie Country House
The courtyard is an oasis of tranquillity, completely sheltered by the house and courtyard walls, it is bordered by deep beds of colourful, fragrant flowers. During the summer, swallows nest in every window recess, with swifts and wagtails taking up residence in the log stores.

The lavender bed hums with bumble bees and butterflies abound. At night, owls perch on the weather vane at the top of the tower.

The grassed inner courtyard is surrounded by pots of herbs. A bird feeder and water trough, surrounded by damp logs, ensures that there are always wild birds nearby and the children may even be able to find toads or newts.

A separating raised bed is used to grow vegetables for our free range chickens, with a few choice vegetables just to keep the caterpillars fed.

The main courtyard has tables and chairs for making the most of the surroundings. A covered gas barbeque allows cooking out all year round. The old game store, off the main courtyard, has been converted into a well equipped gym. Just outside the courtyard gates, is a raised, screened deck, where you can relax in a 7/8 person hot tub / jacuzzi in the evening sun.

Grounds at Logie Country House
Logie Country House has six acres of lawns, woodland and orchards. The main lawn to the south of the house, has magnificent views over the foot hills of Bennachie and leads down to the banks of the river Urie.

A footbridge takes you from the lawn, across the river, to a private island, a favourite for picnics, fishing and relaxing. There is a tree house for the older children to play in and a hidden gravestone for the children that don't like heights to find.

Otters frequent the island and you will often see Heron perched on rocks in the river, especially during the salmon spawning season.

The Ancient woodland to the west of the house is carpeted in snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells from the end of winter into early summer. Three Pictish Standing Stones were moved into the woodland in the 1800s and now, listed as a scheduled ancient monument, stand at the foot of a Beech tree.

There are red squirrels in the woods too (We have hazelnut feeders to attract them) and they frequently come right up to the house. To the north of the house, is a lawn for the guest wing, as well as a small apple and plum orchard with a trampoline, climbing frame and picnic table for the children.

The estate has miles of walks and tracks for cycling and riding. We have a small clay pigeon ground too, set away from the house. The Urie is renown for brown trout and salmon and guests are welcome to try their luck at fishing (We can provide rods).

Most of our fields have wide grass margins for use as canter tracks and gallop and we will be building a sand paddock and cross country course in 2011.

Equestrian - Logie Country House
Equestrian holidays and livery. We are pleased to be able to offer grazing and stabling on a DIY basis, for both long term livery and short term for guests. We have four 14 x 14 foot stables available, tack and grooming rooms. We have a 15 acre field adjacent to the main house.

It is electric fenced and split with temporary fencing to ensure constant grass. We have installed canter tracks around two of our largest adjacent fields and will be building a sand paddock and cross country course soon. We will also be fencing a small paddock for short term grazing.

Around the estate, there are miles of off road hacks. Please phone our booking line for further details and to check availability.
