Old Rectory Cottage Accommodation

The Old Rectory Cottage is a 3-4 bedroom, 3 bathroom cottage which is all on ground floor level, and can comfortably sleep 6 adults with additional sofa beds being available in the family room / 4th bedroom for any additional guests.

The cottage has all modern furnishings in quality leather and oak finish, Sky TV installed and has an oil fired central heating and hot water system, with all windows fully double glazed.

The holiday cottage benefits from having wheelchair access ramps to both the front and rear entrance doors leading from the private off road parking area’s. Internally the flooring is all on one level, with no steps or ramps for guests to have to negotiate and making the whole house easily accessed by wheel chair.

Bedroom 1, has a double bed, 2 bed side cabinets, wardrobe, 2 sets of drawer units, and ride in en-suite wet room, incorporating mains shower, low level toilet and wash hand basin, suitable for wheel chair access.

Bedroom 2, has two single beds, bed side cabinet, wardrobe, drawer units and en-suite shower room, with electric shower, toilet, and wash hand basin.

Bedroom 3, has two single beds, fitted wardrobes, and 2 sets of drawer units.

Family Room / Bedroom 4, has one double sofa bed, one single chair bed, one single put up z-bed, dresser, drawer units, TV and DVD player. Family Bathroom, has bath with electric shower over, vanity unit and toilet.

TV Lounge includes Sky TV and has a fire place with feature gas fire, 3 seat and two 2 seat leather sofas, coffee tables, and a great 42 inch plasma TV screen, and DVD player.

Adjoining is the cosy Sitting Room is ideal for reading, playing board games or listening to music, and is furnished with a 3 seat and 2 seat sofas and two comfortable arm chairs, mini hi-fi unit, book case, side board, and coffee tables.

Kitchen / Dinning Room is fully equipped with professional gas / electric combination cooking range, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer. The dinning area has a dinning table which can sit up to 10 people when fully extended, a dresser and a fridge freezer.

From the dinning area there is access to the cloak room toilet with wash hand basin, rear entrance door, which has a disabled ramp access to the patio area and car parking. From the front door, the L-shaped main hall with feature vaulted sky light is accessed via the entrance lobby.

The cottage has large mainly lawn gardens to the front, rear and side of the property, which are fully fenced making it safe for children to play, and adults to sit in the quiet secluded gardens.

There is private off road parking for several cars, with paths leading from the parking areas to the wheel chair access ramps at the front and rear doors.

Attractions and Activities
The holiday cottage is ideally situated on a large seclude site in the centre of Grantown-on-Spey, and is within an easy 5 minute stroll of the High Street, and it’s shopping centre and tourist amenities.

Grant Park is only a 1 minute walk from the cottage, and has a children’s recreation play area, a nature pond with it’s abundance of wildlife, and from where access is gained to the many forest and woodland walks which surround Grantown-on-Spey.

Grantown-on-Spey offers a selection of traditional shops, a supermarket, and leisure facilities. There is no shortage of places to eat and drink locally with a good selection of hotels, restaurants, pubs and coffee shops.

Sporting facilities include 18 hole golf course, excellent Salmon and Trout fishing in the River Spey and other near by waters and lochs, 8 tennis courts, bowling green, leisure centre, children's recreation parks, nature trails and forest walks.

Looking to Explore the Scottish Highlands
Situated within the Cairngorms National Park, Grantown-on-Spey is a leading tourist resort catering also for a large surrounding area and has a fine shopping centre, first class hotels and guest houses, Cottage Hospital and Health Centre as well as an award-winning museum and many historic buildings which surround the picturesque tree lined square.

There are many places of interest to visit in the area with Grantown being the gateway to the Malt Whisky Trail.

The Grantown Heritage Centre is open through the summer months and traditional Scottish Highland Games are held at several different venues throughout the Spey Valley over this period. The Cairngorms National Park
The cottage is a great place to explore the Cairngorms National Park. The Cairngorms was made a National Park in September 2003 offering a unique place to discover both local wildlife and countryside. It is Britain's largest national Park and has the largest area of arctic mountain landscape in the UK at its heart.

It is home to 16,000 people and 25% of Britain's threatened birds, animals, and plants, and includes moor lands, forests, rivers, lochs and glens.

The River Spey
Only a short 5 minute walk from Grantown town centre runs the River Spey. The river offers numerous easy walking routes along its banks and is famed for its salmon and trout fishing. It has the third largest drainage area after the Tay and Tweed and is the second longest after the Tay.

However, its major attraction is its size and the strength of its stream - in the middle and lower rivers it falls on average 12 feet per mile - the greatest of any British river.

In the summer, there is a bus link every Wednesday which connects Broomhill to The Square in Grantown.

Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore and Kingussie
Located at two towns, 2 miles apart, the Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore and Kingussie aims to include preserving and recording aspects of Highland life from the 1700s onwards, as well as interpreting the people's lives through interactive living history and activities.

Kingussie, opened in 1944, is the spiritual home of the Highland Folk Museum. Here visitors may see parts of the core collections as well as the 'Blackhouse', Britain's oldest re-created building. Newtonmore, opened in 1995, is a mile long living history site that includes re-constructed buildings, a 1700s 'Township', a 1940 working farm, live interpretation and a range of visitor facilities.

See working dogs as a team manoeuvring sheep and ducks through various obstacles. Feed the collie pups and orphan lambs.

The Lecht Ski area
The Lecht Ski resort is located just 20 miles from the cottage in Grantown on Spey amid the beauty of the Eastern Cairngorms. This natural playground offers exciting outdoor activities for the winter season and summer season including a chairlift rising to 2,500 ft, Deval Karts,Tubing, Ski-ing, Snowboarding, Quad Bikes, Fun Karts and Kiddies Karts.

Travelling to the Old Rectory Cottage in Grantown-on-Spey...

Getting To Grantown-on-Spey by Road
North by the A9 to Aviemore then follow the A95 for 12 miles. South from Inverness to Carrbridge, and follow the signs for 10 miles. From the east The A95 runs straight into town you can join it at Crainellachie, from Elgin, Keith or Dufftown.

The road in from Forres and Nairn over the Dava Moor is one of the most picturesque wilderness routes I know but for variety travelling from Royal Deeside through the Lecht Ski Centre and Tomintoul exposes you to some of the best views in the eastern Highlands.

Getting To Grantown-on-Spey by Rail
The main line from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Inverness stops at Aviemore and Carrbridge and with a bus service connecting to Grantown-on-Spey this may be the least stressing way to start your visit.

Keep an eye on the local news papers and information leaflets for information on the Steam Rail line between Aviemore and Grantown. You could disembark the Aberdeen Inverness line at Forres or Nairn but without buses this would involve a 30 to 40 minute Taxi run.

Getting To Grantown-on-Spey by Air
Inverness airport is only 27 miles from Grantown-on-Spey and has regular links to many UK cities and some service to the continent, with a link bus to Inverness and a regular service from Inverness to Grantown-on-Spey.
