Fort Augustus HotelsWelcome to Benedictine Abbey.
The Benedictine Abbey, built in 1876, is one of the oldest buildings in Fort Augustus, and one of the most impressive buildings anywhere around Loch Ness.

It is built on the site of the original Hanovarian fort named after William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland.

The original foundations still form part of the buildings today, though very little remains of the original fort.

For many years a part of the Abbey was run as a school, by the monks, but it was closed some years ago due to financial pressures.

There have been sightings of the Loch Ness Monster from the grounds of Fort Augustus Abbey by the monks that used to live here. When the Monks finally closed the Abbey as a place of worship, the buildings were converted into the luxury development known as The Highland Club.
