Our History
The original hotel was built in 1856 as the Marine Hotel and a few years later a number of rooms were let to the exclusive Clyde Yacht Club.

In 1872 the Club received Royal patronage, became the Royal Clyde Yacht Club and in 1875 purchased the hotel. In 1888 the hotel was gutted by a fire and the Club engaged the services of the famous architect T L Watson, to design a new building.

Meanwhile the first telegraph office in Scotland (now the pretty "wee" shop at the entrance gate) was opened to relay yacht race results to London. The housewarming of the new hotel coincided with the opening season of yachting on the Clyde in 1890 and the building renamed The Royal Marine Hotel.

Attractions and Activities
The Royal Marine Hotel is located in an unspoiled area of Scotland where there are plenty of interesting walks and hiking opportunities.

Guests can absorb the outstanding scenery whilst observing the abundant wildlife including native red squirrels, deer, otters and visiting dolphins.

Golf is a major attraction as the local area boasts 3 golf courses including the magnificent Cowal Golf Course with extensive facilities.

Other activities include sailing, wind surfing, clay pigeon shooting, quad biking, pleasure cruises plus trips in a high speed jet boat!
