Dunoon hotel Originally called "The Loch Eck Inn" this 17th Century Coaching Inn is situated on the shores of Loch Eck, said by some to be the prettiest Scotland.

Owned and run by Sam & Ro Copson and their team of friendly staff, you can be assured of a warm welcome, great home cooked food and fantastic hospitality in tranquil & historic surroundings.

Situated in Scotland's National Park, just one hour west of Glasgow, we welcome stressed city dwellers looking to get away from it all, "outdoor types" who, after a spot of walking, fishing, cycling or stalking, value a good meal and maybe a drink by the cosy log fires, couples seeking that romantic hideaway, or simply those looking for some traditional Scottish hospitality and a fabulous full Scottish breakfast!

The Coylet Inn Accommodation

The Coylet has 3 double rooms and 1 twin, and has been awarded 3 Diamonds by visit Scotland, and 4 AA diamonds. Access to our well appointed, en-suite accommodation, is via a charming original staircase, which be warned it is quite steep!

3 of our rooms have spectacular Loch views, the 4th has views to the rear of the hotel up into the Glen. A favourite room, is room 3 as it has a huge bath set in the bay window overlooking the Loch, but be warned this tends to be booked up months in advance!

Eating at the Coylet Inn
Please bear in mind, we don't do fast food, we do good food, as fast as we can!

Food is served daily between 12-2.30pm and 6pm - 8.45pm (last seating 8.30pm). Sundays our last seating is 8pm.

We like being able to tell you where your food came from, and how it was prepared and cooked - we can because we know. The majority of our menu is homemade in the true sense, right here using locally sourced fresh ingredients.

Our main menu denotes a variety of gluten free and vegetarian options. Our childrens menu also has a great selection including as many of our main menu options as possible.

Because our main menu and specials board are based around what is freshly available to us, the specials are limited, and although we do our best to ensure our main menu is always fully available, due to our location and principles of fresh is best, supply may not meet demand.

On rare occasions, in that scenario, we would rather apologize for running out, than serve sub standard, frozen or pre prepared food.

Whether you decide to dine in the restaurant, enjoy a drink in the bar, stay for a relaxing break, or even get married here! The Coylet Inn team look forward to welcoming you in the near future.

We also welcome dogs with well behaved owners in the bar, and although licensing does not allow children under 14 in the bar, they are welcome in the restaurant or by the cosy fire outside the bar, where the trunk and drawers are full of games to keep everyone amused!

Weddings
First of all may we say huge congratulations on your forthcoming wedding, from everyone here at The Coylet Inn. Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and here at The Coylet, it is our intention to make sure your day is an unforgettable experience for you and your guests.

Being a small friendly restaurant and Inn, means that here you really do get the "personal touch" and everything can be tailored to make your dreams a reality.

We are not wedding planners, but we will accommodate your wishes wherever and however we can, or offer achievable alternatives - if you want to arrive by seaplane onto the loch - we know a man who can!

It is your special day, and our job is to make sure that the only people stressed on the day, is us. We treat every wedding like it was our own.

Things to do
Argyll is an area noted for its beautiful scenery and diverse wildlife. The area immediately surrounding The Coylet, within the Argyll Forest Park, is popular with hill walkers, cyclists, fisherman and stalkers, as well as those simply looking to get away from it all.

The legendary Paper Caves are but a short boat ride across the loch, and a medium difficulty hike away, with the right directions! Even to this day, few know where they are, or realize their historic importance in the local area, let alone have they been privileged to know where to go in order to locate them.

We are also only 2 miles from Benmore Botanical Gardens, the magical Pucks Glen, or if you are feeling a little more adventurous, how about a little Quad Biking, archery, clay pigeon shooting, abseiling and many more activities? Quadmania have it all!

For a slightly slower pace, you could simply hire one of our boats and idle the day away on the beautiful Loch Eck surrounded by stunning scenery, perhaps bring a fishing rod, we can even provide a picnic.

We are approximately 10 miles from the centre of Dunoon, with its leisure centre, golf course, cinema and of course pubs! There are a good selection of shops for the size of the town, and some great places to have coffee or a spot of lunch, before perhaps walking along the waterfront and taking in yet more stunning scenery.

For those wanting to explore a little further afield, perhaps a drive to Inverary along the shores of Loch Fyne, and a visit to Inverary Jail, followed by a meal at the Famous Loch Fyne Oyster bar, or maybe you would rather visit Blair Drummond Safari Park or Oban Rare Breeds Farm Park.

Whatever you fancy, our location means you are never far away from something to do, but far enough away to have a wonderfully relaxing break, in one of the most tranquil and stunning locations in Scotland.

Boat hire and Fishing
Magnificent Loch Eck just over 6 miles long and 67 feet above sea level, scythes through the centre of the Cowal Peninsula, surrounded by high, forested hills.

The loch epitomizes Cowal - rugged and spectacular but at the same time peaceful, where you can while away the hours, and with our own private beach, our rowing boats are always ready to go exploring. We are the only place on the Loch that offers people the opportunity to hire a boat and explore this very special spot.

During the summer months our row boats are often booked up, so it is always advisable to pre-book. We use large open clinker style boats that seat 7 people comfortably.

We provide buoyancy aids, and you can while away the time exploring the beauty of the Loch from the tranquillity of the water. Loch Eck has many many small beaches along its shore lines, so you may even want to moor up and explore some of the forest and hills accessible only by boat.

Fishing Permits
Being one of only 2 places on the Loch with riperian fishing rights, and biding by the old Scottish bylaws where even fish get a rest on Sundays! Fishing permits are available from us.

The Fishing season commences on the 1st of May until the 31st October, and a very old bylaw still exists whereby the Loch cannot be fished on a Sunday which is abided to, despite disgruntled fishermen!

Because of Loch Ecks unique status - it is the only Loch in Scotland where you will find Powan and Arctic Charr, together with Sea Trout and Salmon - anglers are prohibited from introducing any form of "live bait" into the Loch, and also prohibited from fishing for the Arctic Charr and Powan.
