Yet the hostel is luxurious by normal hostel standards, with a selection of double and multi-share rooms, many with ensuite facilities, which are perfect for individuals, families and groups.

Most of the rooms are ensuite and many have full access for wheelchairs. With such a range of accommodation, Dundee Hostel is very suitable for group visits.

All rooms have electronic locks for your security and your room key allows 24 hour access. The hostel has a self-catering kitchen, dining room, TV lounge with satellite, internet access, laundry facilities and a pool room.

Dundee Backpackers Hostel is truly unlike any other hostel. It is a recent unique renovation of immense character which dates back to the 16th century. Medieval influences are evident throughout the building, with many original architectural features beautifully preserved.

Open all year round, Dundee Hostel reception is open from 8am to 12pm. There is also a large meeting/conference room which may be pre-booked for events, lectures and conferences.

Tours and Attractions
The City of Discovery is home to some of Scotland's best attractions, culture and entertainment with Dundee Backpackers Hostel right in the heart of it all.

If you want to venture a little further there's a whole host of things to see and do including world-class golf courses to play, fascinating history to soak up, idyllic beaches to walk or iconic mountains to explore, all within easy reach of Dundee.

During the day you can visit the local attractions such as Discovery Point, Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre and the McManus Galleries which are just a short stroll form the hostel. The Caird Hall is opposite the Hostel on the High Street.

Dundee Backpackers hostel is in a great location on the High Street with numerous shops, eateries, pubs and clubs right on your doorstep.

Train and bus stations are within a 5 minute walk and you cannot miss the hostel on the centre of the city’s main thoroughfare.

Hostel History
Enter through the huge ornate iron front gate and you find reception in the oldest part of the hostel; the ‘Gardyne’ building which dates back to 1560 and is the finest remaining example of late medieval architecture in the city.

Reception is located in an ancient courtyard which is now covered by a spectacular glass roof. Other parts of the hostel date back to the 17th and 18th centuries and display the architectural style of their era.

All five buildings are of immense character and even have their own little on-site museum full of information and artifacts from the buildings’ history. In its time the site has housed among others, booksellers, jewellers, merchants, mariners, physicians and several past Provosts of the city.

In the late 1880s it was owned by John Keillor of international marmalade fame.

In this fabulous location, with such friendly staff and comfortable accommodation Dundee Backpackers Hostel is the best place to stay in town.

Getting there from the Information Centre:

Turn left onto Union Street, then right onto Nethergate, continue onto High Street. Hostel is opposite the Caird Hall.

Getting There by Car:
From the South take A85, turn onto A991 ,continue onto A92. Turn left onto Commercial Street and then left onto High Street.

Getting There by Railway:
From Dundee Rail station turn left onto Union Street, then right onto Nethergate, continue onto High Street.

Getting There by Ferry:
Follow A90 north, then follow A92, turn left onto Commercial Street, then left onto High Street.
