Green Tourism at Loch Ness
The Old Stables was a conversion completed in 2007 to provide self catering accommodation for large groups of up to 10 people.

The Old Stable is set on the edge of a working farm adjacent to the Corrimony RSPB Nature Reserve in Glenurquhart, near Loch Ness.

An ideal base for a holiday from which to explore the magical Scottish Highlands, or simply enjoy the peace and tranquility of the area.

Things to do:
There are well-marked woodland trails right from the front door of the Old Stables and in the surrounding area. These are suitable for walking and mountain biking.
Nearby are a number of hill lochs suitable for trout fishing. The historic Corrimony Chambered Cairn is among several walks direct from the stable door.

Location:
Loch Ness is 10 miles. The Official Loch Ness Monster Exhibition offers eyewitness accounts of sightings, as well as details of research projects carried out over the years. Cruises on the loch can also be booked, and fishing expeditions (with local ghillie) are also easily arranged, with well-run pony trekking found at the Highland Riding Centre nearby.

A few miles to the south, ruined Castle Urquhart once served in an important role during the Wars of Independence, and floodlit at night, it can only assume a hint of its former splendour.

West of Corrimony is Strathglass which includes Glens Affric, Cannich and Strathfarrar where there are a walks of all grades to suit hill walkers and casual walkers, trout or salmon fishing, golf course and bike hire.

Inverness (25 miles) offers plenty of good shops, restaurants, cultural and leisure amenities. Fort William, Skye, Aviemore and Wick are all within a day's drive.

Here at The Old Stables we are committed to providing good quality and environmentally friendly self catering accommodation. We take all reasonable measures to reduce the environmental impact of our activities.

By encouraging sustainable practices the scheme ensures the continued enjoyment of the environment around us for future generations.

Some of the environmentally friendly measures we have taken to reduce the environmental footprint of the Old Stables are:
· Generating our own energy for heating from a renewable source, through a Ground Source Heat Pump. The pump is powered by electricity but for every unit of electricity used three to four units of heat are produced. The heating system provides the ground floor underfloor heating and all hot water.
A ground loop is buried in a trench in the ground to the north of the building. The pipe is filled with a mixture of water and antifreeze which is pumped round the ground loop to absorb heat from the ground.
The pump's evaporator takes in the heat absorbed by the ground loop and a compressor gets it to the right temperature for the heating system. A condenser then transfers heat from the pump to a hot water tank which then feeds the house's heating system.
· Saving energy through use of low energy light bulbs, 'A' rated appliances and good insulation in lofts, walls and under lower flooring.
· Use of green cleaning products.
· Fair Trade products in welcome pack.
· Encourage our visitors to walk and cycle in the local area.
· Wood burning stove fuel sourced on farm.
You can help us in our endeavours by:
· Recycling as much of your waste as possible in the bins provided
· Turning lights and TV's off when not in use
· Purchasing food from local producers
· Giving your car a day off
· Buy products with less packaging
