The lodge enjoys stunning views across the Solway Firth to the Lake District in Summer and winter. Situated on a family run farm, in a unique secluded woodland setting the lodge is a perfect get-away for those seeking a return to the great outdoors.

The surrounding area offers a myriad of activities from mountain biking on competition standard forest trails, to beach combing, bird watching, golfing and historical discoveries; a host of activities for all the family.

Oakwood Lodge Accommodation

The lodge is of a unique design and beautifully built from solid pine logs. Inside it is spacious and well equipped. The great room has a commanding view over the Solway Firth, comfortable sofas, digital TV, DVD player, books and radio with stereo CD. The inside of the lodge is attractively finished in natural pine.

The kitchen has electric oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer and a dining table for 6. The lodge has a private garden including a west facing patio and barbecue area. Patio doors lead outside on to a timber veranda with seats to relax on and a teak table & chairs for your sunny breakfast.

There is a separate utility room with washing machine, tumble drier and sink, with plenty of space for boots, wet coats, golf bags, prams and buggies.

The master bedroom has a king sized bed and an en-suite shower room. There are two further twin bed rooms and a large bathroom. All rooms are tastefully appointed and characterful. The lodge is very warm and cosy with central heating. All heating and electricity charges are included.

The lodge is well suited to family groups and young children.

The lodge does not have a telephone but mobile reception is generally good. Free range eggs, asparagus, strawberries and new potatoes are available from the farm when in season.

Activities
Relax with a quiet walk along nearby Sandyhills beach or a spot of bird watching at the neighbouring RSPB nature reserve.

Brush up your golf strokes on a range of local courses. Or climb on your mountain bike and get the adrenalin going on the famous single-track trails of nearby Dalbeattie Forest.

Relaxation - walking, beaches, cycling, local shops, pubs and restaurants.

Walking on lovely coastal path nearby, in local forests and on the farm. Enjoy the rich variety of wildflowers here including bluebells in spring and heather clad hills in summer. In spring, bluebells carpet the hill. There are also lovely walks along the nearby Colvend coast.

Beaches - there is a fabulous sandy beach at Sandyhills (1 mile) ideal for families with small children due to the shallow paddling. Other secluded beaches and coves nearby to explore.

Cycling along a network of quiet local side roads. (The lodge comes with a lockable bike shed and floor mounted steel rings for secure storage).

Local shops, pubs and restaurants - locally there are a wide a range of hotels, pubs and tearooms including the Anchor in the scenic fishing village of Kippford (4 miles). There are shops at Colvend (2 miles) and Dalbeattie (6 miles). Visit the 'Food town' of Castle Douglas (12 miles) for locally produced specialities.

Sporting challenges - golfing, tennis, fishing.

Adventures - 7Stanes mountain biking, horse riding, climbing, water sports

Entertainment - local arts, theatre, music, films.

Bird watching and wildlife
The Lodge overlooks the RSPB reserve at Mersehead (2 miles) famous for 20,000 over wintering geese from Iceland and the arctic island of Svalbard! Spectacular flights of geese are often visible from the lodge.

History - a wealth of history to explore nearby including the home of John Paul Jones the founder of the US navy in nearby Kirkbean. Other sites include Threave Castle, Sweetheart Abbey and Caerlaverock Castle.

Robert Burns - Dumfrieshire is the home of the world famous Bard. Visit the award winning Robert Burns Centre in Dumfries.
