Why come to Redcastle Holiday Self Catering Holiday Cottages in Dumfries and Galloway? - We have 4 lovely self catering holiday cottages, each are part of the Estate and offer quiet, comfortable, pet friendly accommodation at very affordable rates.

Each property has access to the tennis court and a games room, they have small private gardens set within the beautiful surroundings of the main house. We are located in the centre of Dumfries and Galloway, 1 mile from a lovely country Pub which sells real ale and good food. 3 miles from Castle Douglas, known as "The Food Town" and 4 miles from Dalbeattie 7 Stanes mountain biking routes which are renowned as some of the best in Europe.

We are very lucky to be close to many beaches including Sandyhills, Colvend and Redhaven at Auchencairn. There are some lovely walks close by including Doach and Screel, (in fact its a lovely walk to the pub and back).

There are lots of attractions to keep the family happy, like Cream'o'Galloway Ice Creamery with adventure park, Mabie Farm Park where children get close to, and feed the animals. There are Castles and Abbeys and Museums and Mills, and Kilt makers and lovely market towns with unique shops ......... well there is so much to see and do that you will be back again and again.

Redcastle Cottages Accommodation

All accommodation has HD ready LCD TVs with built in Freeview and DVD player ( we are now digital) , washing machine, (a dryer in the garage), microwave, duvets, pillows, bed linen, hand towel bath mat, drying up cloth but please bring your own bath towel , ( let me know if you would like them provided) garden furniture, parking and garden with washing line.

Extra beds,cots and high chairs can be provided if requested. Heating/cooking is electric. In the Steading there is a gas hob. Central heating is in the form of electric storage heaters/convectors.

There are also books, games and puzzles for wet weather! A games room with table tennis and some keep fit equipment. There is also a tennis court in the garden. Please bring your own rackets and balls.

Steading 1
This is a one bedroomed flat converted from the stables and hay loft, overlooking the old farm courtyard and fields. Steading 1 has a double bedroom with bath and shower and as it is all on the ground floor would suit someone with mobility difficulties.

The property also has an IKEA armchair which turns into a single bed and can sleep 3. Steading 1 has parking and an enclosed garden.

Steading 2
This is a one bedroomed flat converted from the stables and hay loft. Up a flight of outside steps Steading 2 overlooks the old farm courtyard, fields and its enclosed garden and parking.

The Steading 2 has a twin bedroom with an open plan living area. Galley kitchen, dining area, sofa and TV. There is a shower/WC and hand basin. The kitchen has a washing machine/electric cooker/fridge and microwave.

The Steading
Converted from a cowshed it has an enclosed garden, patio with garden furniture and parking. The Steading looks on to fields with views of the Galloway hills.

Living room with TV/DVD player and Freeview, kitchen/diner, double bedroom, twin bedded room and a single bedroom. Bath/shower room. In the kitchen there is a washing machine, fridge, microwave, electric oven with gas hob and a small freezer.

The Cottage
This property used to be the servants quarters for the farmhouse. Living room, dining room with solid fuel burning stove, kitchen which includes an electric cooker, microwave,washing machine and the use of large freezer in side room to left of entrance, bath/ shower room.

One large family sized bedroom with a double and single bed and one twin bedded room.

Activities and Attractions
Redcastle is six miles from the thriving market town of Castle Douglas where there is a Tourist Information Centre, theatre, town loch and a variety of individual shops.

Three miles in the opposite direction you come to Dalbeattie with its lovely park, trampolines and small pond with pedaloes, shops and museum. Dalbeattie is on the edge of the forest with numerous walks and cycle tracks.

Dumfries is the nearest large town situated on the River Nith, about 16 miles away. We are two miles south of the A75 which links to Carlisle…M6…and the ferry terminal at Stranraer. Glasgow and Edinburgh are 98 miles away.

Walking... From Redcastle along the River Urr, through Glen of Spottes, Redcastle Standing Stone or to the Motte of Urr. Excavations here suggest that this timber and earthwork castle was destroyed inn 1174 by Gilbert the son of the King of the Gallovidians.

Fishing...There are many places to fish but I shall only detail the Urr as it is the nearest…the season is from 25 February to 30 November, salmon, sea and brown trout. Bank fishing, spinning, fly and worm. No Sunday fishing. A permit can be obtained from McCowan & Son in Castle Douglas. They also have info on all local fishing.

Cycling...Redcastle is part of the Visit Scotland welcome cyclist scheme and is central to the 7 Stanes rides. The nearest cycle shop and hire is in Dalbeattie.

Riding... Explore the local countryside on horseback or have a lesson!

Water sports...The Galloway Sailing Centre on Loch ken has a huge range of activities, boats/ wind surfers for hire, courses for 5 days or a day/half a day tuition. They also run a motor boat qualification course. A water ski school also on Loch Ken, if you prefer sea sailing there is a sailing club at Kippford.

Golfing...There are courses at Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie, Kippford, Kirkcudbright and Colvend and many many more throughout the region!

Beaches... the nearest one is at Rockcliffe 7 miles away..mainly shells. If you want sand then go to Sandyhills about 3 miles further along the coast.

Eating Out
In Dumfries and Galloway you are surrounded by natures larder, in the fields, rivers and sea around you. Many of the cafes, pubs and restaurants in the region use fresh, local produce on their menus everyday. With fine quality foods such as Buccleuch Beef, Solway Scallops, Galloway Lamb, local smoked salmon and a range of local cheeses and ice cream to round off your meal.

The Laurie Arms in Haugh of Urr is just a 15 minute walk from your cottage. Owned and run by the Yates family the Laurie Arms has award winning traditional local dishes complemented with an extensive wine list and real ales in abundance. There is also a pool table and when its cold a roaring fire.

Five miles away is Castle Douglas Food Town which has a large variety of places to eat such as Designs Gallery and The Crown Hotel Restaurant.

On the coast you will find Balcary Bay Hotel at Auchencairn or in Kippford the Mariner Hotel and the Anchor Hotel. The Barons Craig Hotel at Rockcliffe, an old hunting lodge with wonderful views of the Solway.

DIRECTIONS
Getting there from the Information Centre:

From Castle Douglas take A75 Dumfries Road. Take B794 to Dalbeattie. after village take left signposted to Redcastle Farm.

Getting There by Railway:
From Dumfries station take the A75 to Haugh of Urr. Redcastle is just past the church on the U96.

Getting There by Ferry:
From Stranrear follow to A75 to Haugh of Urr. Redcastle is just past the church on a single track road.
