Discover our tranquil hideaway superbly situated on the shores of Balcary Bay on the unspoilt Solway Coast. Balcary Mews is set in an elevated position and commands magnificent uninterrupted views across the bay, with the Galloway Hills and coastline beyond and Hestan Island in the fore.

It is beautifully appointed, adjacent to spectacular coastal walks and ideal for exploring glorious Galloway. Outdoor enthusiasts can partake in hiking, rambling, bird watching, fishing, riding, cycling or one of the many excellent golf courses in the vicinity.

Balcary Mews Bed and Breakfast Accommodation

Our accommodation is superb, you can relax in the ambience our comfortable rooms which are tastefully furnished and all en-suite. Balcary Mews has 3 spacious bedrooms all with fabulous sea views. All rooms are individually designed and beautifully co-ordinated.

Criffel - Double/twin with en-suite facilities.
Hestan - Double with en-suite facilities.
Bengairn - Twin/super king with en-suite facilities, situated on the ground floor with level access from the car park

All rooms have a television and complimentary trays.

Balcary Mews has a large, welcoming reception area with seating. Here you will find an abundance of local tourist information, maps, literature, including a book about our smuggling connections! Ample space for walking boots and coats.

The country style breakfast room has individual tables through to the Garden room. Pam serves a delicious Scottish cooked breakfast!

The comfortable guest sitting room has patio doors opening on to the terrace. This room has a picture window frontage affording panoramic views across the bay. Beautiful, mature gardens with seating for our guests to relax and admire the breathtaking views. Direct access onto the beach.

Check-in: between 4pm & 6pm (or by prior arrangement) and Check-out: before 10.30am.

Eating Out
Restaurants and hotels serving good food to suit all tastes can be found in Auchencairn, Balcary Bay, in nearby Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright. We have a wide selection of menus available in our reception area.

Fishing
The Solway Coast is an excellent spot for sea fishing enthusiasts who can expect to catch, mackerel, cod, pollock, dogfish and skate. Around and about there are many lochs, one of which is Loch Ken being renowned for its large pike and only a short drive away!

Southern Scotland is an excellent place if you intend to catch salmon or trout from the many rivers, we will be happy to point you in the right direction.

Cycling
Dumfries & Galloway is the home of cycling! The region has lots of quiet country roads. Dumfries & Galloway is also home to five of the 7 Stanes world class mountain bike centres.

Golf
Many fine courses are within easy drive of Balcary Mews, courses are located in Castle Douglas, Gatehouse, Dumfries Thornhill, Kirkcudbright, New Galloway and Dalbeattie to name but a few.

If you are prepared to drive just a little further you will find the Ayrshire coastal resorts, including Turnberry and Royal Troon.

Bird Watching
Dumfries and Galloway boasts some of the most spectacular views and scenery, from the magnificent scenery & wildlife of the Solway Coast to the Galloway Forest Park and the Galloway Hills. These areas are home to red and roe deer, otter, badger, arctic hare; birds of prey include Golden Eagle, Peregrine, Merlin, Hen Harriers, Goshawk and Red Kite.

Several species of Wild Geese including Ospreys can be seen migrating at the RSPB reserve at Ken-Dee Marshes. A day can be easily spent with the camera or just looking.

Out and about

Explore nearby Kirkcudbright with its artistic heritage also known as the "artist's town", Castle Douglas known as the "food town" or Wigtown known as the "book town".……….or simply relax on one of our unspoilt beaches.

In the 17th Century, Hestan Island was a hideaway for smugglers. In more recent years its inhabitants were of a more law abiding kind and now it is home only to seabirds and sheep.

DIRECTIONS
Lying in Dumfries & Galloway in Scotland's South West, Balcary Mews is a beautiful home on the sea front. We are located off the A711 Dumfries to Kirkcudbright road, 2 miles out of Auchencairn at the end of the shore road. On arrival turn left through the archway and into Balcary Mews courtyard.
