Activities and Attractions
The Roman Camp Hotel is found in one of the national parks in Scotland - The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. An ideal location for enjoying, Walking, Fishing, Golfing and many other activities.

Callander is strategically placed to visit Scotland's main cities, including Glasgow and the capital, Edinburgh. These can be reached easily within an hour, by using the main routes or you can meander along the more scenic back roads, where a sight of Scotland's wildlife is possible and a chance to see the hidden views of our country.

Travelling north of Callander (The Gateway to the Highlands) opens the door to the true heart of Scotland. To the north and east you can visit the Grampian range of mountains and the country's ski resorts, while to the west you will find Scotland's and Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis and the town of Fort William.

Venturing further afield are the numerous islands of Scotland, including the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides.

The Roman Camp Hotels is truly a wonderful and magical place, allowing you to stay in one of the most historic areas of Scotland and be in easy reach of Scotland’s best features.

Fishing
We have a Private Beat on the north bank the River Teith stretching for ¾ mile through our hotel gardens and parkland, which is complimentary for Hotel residents to fish. There are two good pools one upstream at the very top of our stretch “The Black Hole” and the other at the bottom called the “Green Isle” along with some good runs.

Both immediately below and above our private beat are the town waters where permits can be easily purchased. Our south bank neighbours kindly allow hotel guests to fish their half of the river when they have no rods out.

Other Beats
Further down stream from Roman Camp are the waters of Gart Farm & Cambusmore with 28 named pools, then just four miles from the hotel on the river Teith is the renowned Landrick estate.

Our river setting is very picturesque and beautiful, allowing both Fly-fishing and the use of Spinners. Each year salmon above 20lb are taken, along with fine Sea Trout, and wild Brown Trout. Access to the river is best by wading but there are some cleared banks and old “Croys” to help.

During spring fishing there can be good catches, but September & October produce the best results when water levels can be more productive.

In addition to our own beat we can arrange fishing on many of the fine waters of the area, including The Earn, Tay, and several Lochs for Salmon, Sea Trout, Brown Trout & Rainbows.

Seasons
Season for Salmon & Sea Trout 1st February to 31st October
Brown Trout 15th March to 6th October.(We request that all fish are returned.)

Ghillie
If given prior notice we are able to arrange a Ghillie, to guide and if needed they will also instruct, please give as much notice as possible, but any less than 72 hours makes it very difficult to arrange. (One Ghillie can guide up to four anglers.)

Hire of Equipment
We can also arrange for the hire of various items of equipment including rods, tackle and waders, once again as much notice as possible will help ensure we can arrange what is needed.

Transport
Can often be arranged through our local Ghillie which is by far the best solution, but Chauffer drive vehicles can also be hired. Costs are dependent on destination and vehicle type.

History
The Roman Camp got its name from the conspicuous earthwork visible across the meadows to the south of the gardens. This is believed to be Roman and there are indeed remains of a Roman Fort at Bochastle to the north of the town.

The House was originally a modest 17th century manor house on the estates of the Earl of Moray, one of Scotland's most ancient families who married into the Royal Family when an early ancestor became the husband of Christian, the sister of Robert the Bruce.

Another Earl was regent of Scotland during the childhoods of King James VI and I, the son of Mary Queen of Scotland.
