Luib House Location:
Luib House is set in the crofting hamlet of Luib, which is located just over 6 miles from Broadford and 19 miles from Portree, the capital of Skye.

The house rests in the middle of the Cuillin Hills and overlooks Loch Ainort with wonderful views toward the Isles of Raasay and Scalpay. On a clear day you may just see the Applecross peninsular in the distance.

There are four ways onto Skye, the easiest is via the impressive new Skye bridge which is toll free and only 15 miles from Luib.

Those arriving on Skye at Uig via the ferries, are 34 miles from Luib. If you are using the Cal Mac ferry from Malliag which docks at Armadale you are 23 miles away.

Alternatively, the Skye Ferry from Kylerhea is 17 miles away from Luib.

Activities:
There are a wide variety of activities available on Skye to satisfy both visitors looking for outdoor adventures, to those who prefer to admire the breathtaking scenery and wildlife.

Skye can be explored and enjoyed to the full from the dramatic mountains that challenge climbers and hill walkers, to the coastlines and moors that provide the opportunities for countless walks.

There are many organisations that will guide you through the landscape, informing you of the wildlife you may see, both on land or sea. If you wish to explore the mountains more thoroughly and ‘bag a few Munroes’, then the use of experts such as the Cuillin Guides will be invaluable in your climb.

The sea around Skye is another setting where visitors can entertain themselves. Here can be found water sports centres, ranging from scuba diving and sailing, to wind surfing and sea kayaking. Alternatively, for those wishing to explore the waves without getting too wet, a trip on the glass-bottomed boat from Broadford may be the answer.

Golfers can enjoy a round of either 9 or 18 holes at the Isle of Skye Golf Club at Sconser. This seaside course has spectacular views of the Red Cuillins, Ben Tianavaig and the Isle of Raasay.
The course, which is open all year, is ideal for golfers of all ages and abilities. We are also able to offer our residents at Luib House a discount via a voucher scheme.

You could also choose to while away the time by going to appreciate the islands several museums and art galleries, or go exploring castles and their gardens. The famous Talisker Distillery can be found at Carbost where one can taste the sweet, full-bodied single malt.

Local Wild Life:
Here in Luib we enjoy an abundance of wildlife. To show you what we have seen so far we have set up this web page for your enjoyment. It is divided into three different areas, plus a section for summer and winter migrants, one for rare visitors and another for mammals. There is our steep back garden which the local sheep keep cropped for us.The more cultivated front garden with its bird table. Then over the road the field opposite stretches down to theshores of Loch Ainort with its variety of sea birds and waders.

Satellite Navigation
| If you going to use a satellite navigation system (Sat Nav) to find us these are the latitude and longitude settings you will require.
Latitude: 57° 16’ 34” N or 57.27632° N
Longitude: 6° 2’ 45” W or 6.04611° W

If you are using a Sat Nav for your journey directions to Luib House please be aware that most systems will direct you on the shortest route. These directions may be misleading as in the past they have directed guests to Mallaig where there is a ferry crossing.

In the winter the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale only sails twice daily Monday to Friday with NO SERVICE at weekends. There are more ferry sailings during the summer months however the last ferry departs from Mallaig at 6.00pm. We would always advise that if you wish to use the ferry that you contact Calmac and book in advance.

If you arrive at Mallaig by mistake your only course of action is to return to Fort William and follow the directions detailed above.
