Brechin HotelsGreenden Farmhouse is a charming country house dating back to 1750. Enclosed by a mature garden it is indeed an enchanting spot.

Within its private and secluded grounds sits the stunning 5 star Parker’s Retreat and the award winning recent edition Anglers Bothy. Each house has its own private access.

On arrival guests are welcomed to Greenden by the owner. She will then give an intro tour of Parker's Retreat, the name derived from the owner’s love of Jazz, after which you can simply relax and enjoy this stunning rural retreat.

Surrounded by over 1000 acres of arable land and forest it provides the perfect pastoral haven. An area rich in wildlife and antiquity a history dating back to the Romans and Picts.

Parker's Retreat Accommodation

The accommodation split over two levels has a maximum occupancy of six.

Set in its own private grounds a gravel drive leads to the front of the house, with ample parking at the side. A South facing patio offers uninterrupted views across the countryside, beyond a small lawn with herbaceous borders.

Ground floor
Three bedrooms. Sitting room with wood burning stove and wooden floors. Spacious farmhouse style kitchen. Cloakroom/W.C. Utility room. Double bedroom with en suite shower room/W. C.

Foxgloves bedroom 1: Charming, pink bedroom with lovely brass bed.This downstairs bedroom with its pink décor creates a warm and comforting feel with its large double brass bed, blanket box, chest of drawers, fitted double wardrobes and cot. North facing window looking out over countryside.

Ensuite with bath and integrated bath shower mixer taps.

WC, Convenient downstairs washroom contains basin and toilet. Located in hall between kitchen and utility room. Utility room contains Belfast sink, freezer, microwave, oil central heating boiler, Washing machine, tumble dryer laundry facilities.

Kitchen: Large, bright Farmhouse kitchen.

Lounge: The classic lounge; luxurious and elegant. Once more a refreshing bright room; imaginative use of both contemporary furniture and colour scheme create an ambience for more mature relaxing. Its panoramic landscape views and air of tranquility create a perfect space to sit and reflect.

First floor
Master double bedroom with en suite bathroom/W.C. (shower attachment). Double bedroom with en suite shower room/W.C. Spacious sitting room with balcony with countryside views. This house is unsuitable for the infirm.

Primrose Bedroom 3: Substantial master bedroom. With its East and South facing windows a truly sumptuous room. The largest bedroom, with a double brass bed, side tables, dressing table, fitted wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Step into the thickly carpeted en suite with its amazing freestanding bath with shower mixer, large vanity basin and toilet. A truly elegant room difficult to leave; definitely for grown ups!

Bluebells bedroom 2: Beautiful blue bedroom with luxurious en suite. Upstairs this charming room decorated in shades of blue provide both a bright and fresh feel, with views across open countryside from its North and West facing windows.

A traditional antique Scottish double bed with matching bedside tables, chest of drawers and fitted wardrobe. From here step into the thickly carpeted shower room with large vanity basin, toilet, Matki shower enclosure and fabulous Perrin and Rowe shower. The perfect answer to wash away morning blues.

Hall: Large welcoming entranceway.This large airy space features a magnificent traditionally built oak staircase. Within the hall a large chest holds your linen for the holiday. An antique dresser contains magazines, books and games for guest’s enjoyment.

Lounge: A warm comfortable room inviting you to relax. Awash with sunlight during the day. In the evening a large wood burning stove and fabulous thick curtains, plump inviting sofas, T.V and video create the perfect sanctuary to sit and unwind. In the summer months simply open the French windows and walk down onto the garden.

Things to do:
The owner will offer suggestions for excursions depending on whether you wish a relaxed holiday by the beach or, possibly to visit one of the County's stunning private gardens which are open to the public, wildlife watching on one of the many nearby reserves or for the more energetic venturing into the nearby Cairngorm National park for some elusive Munro bagging.

There is excellent golf, fishing by arrangement and walking in the Angus Glens nearby, and Dundee's exhibition with Captain Scott's ship The Discovery is 20 miles. Pubs serving food and shops 3 miles.

Activities and Attractions
Scotland is revered internationally as a mature sporting destination that offers visitors outstanding experiences amongst stunning and dramatic landscapes.

The country is also steeped in colourful history, tradition and culture which provide the sporting visitor with, what many across the world regard as an unrivalled overall experience.

However, what makes Scotland such a special destination is not just a few high profile activities, but rather the amazing diversity of sporting opportunities available to the visitor and the complete landscape contrasts from mountain to moorland and coastal to forest and lowland hills that are all available within such an easily accessible geographical area.

Angus has a rich heritage of Castles (Glamis) and Cathedrals so for those interested in medieval antiquities advice on their locations can be given.

With twenty Golf Courses within 1 hour and outstanding equestrian facilities nearby, fishing on the river South Esk (3 miles). Parker’s provides an abundance of recreational pursuits to suit every level.

Golf Parker's provides the perfect location to make the most of golfing in Angus. It's central location in the heart of Carnoustie Country enables you to be accessible to the majority of courses within ½ hour drive. You can enjoy the contrasts from the challenging links Montrose Arbroath Carnoustie courses to the magnificent and breathtaking courses of Alyth Edzell Kirriemuir.

What we have found many of our guests have come without their wives and have regretted the decision with Parker's stunning location and close rail links the ladies can enjoy day trips to the cities of Dundee, Aberdeen Glasgow and Edinburgh all easily accessible for a fabulous day out.

Or simply the ladies may enjoy to relax and walk in and taken the local sites castles gardens beach walks or for the more energetic a touch of Munro bagging.

For those that thrive on the hustle and bustle of everyday life the market towns of Forfar (8 miles), Montrose (8 miles), Arbroath (11 miles), Brechin (3 miles) have a wide diversity of shops and through out the summer months they celebrate festivals of the sea, arts and with the many Farmers markets and Country fares and pageantry’s there is simply so much to experience.

Angus is world renowned for its contribution to Scotland’s larder; Aberdeen Angus beef, soft fruit, smokies. Many eating-places within a short drive have been awarded outstanding achievements for their imaginative use of these culinary ingredients.

For those travellers with young children Angus has so much to offer from country parks to museums and child friendly restaurants.

Montrose benefits from rail links to Aberdeen, Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow so venturing further a field without the car is possible thus you can enjoy the cultural experiences of city life all within a day. The A90 (4 miles) links you to three international airports within 2 hours.

Fishing
To the North of Angus lies the royal burgh of Brechin as decreed in 1641.Three miles South sits Parker's Retreat thus the accommodation is ideally situated for fishing the Rivers North and South Esk, West water, Loch Lee and a variety of beach fishing on the coast.

Excellent Migratory salmon and sea trout fishing can be found on both the rivers North and South Esk the season starts the 16th of February until the 31st of October. Parker's Retreat is a mere 5- 10 minutes drive to the lower beats of the South Esk: Kinnaird Powmouth, Kinnaird Lower, Kinnaird Middle and Kinnaird upper

For Fishing Parties we can offer simple self catering or fully catered. Our minimum stay is three nights.

Picnic Lunches can be made on request. Our local butcher is famous for his award winning herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle. Our lamb and pork are locally reared. Our game is supplied locally.

Our fish is supplied by our fishmonger in Arbroath. If you would like alternatively to dine out we can recommend a number of outstanding local restaurants and you only have to read our visitors book to appreciate our recommendations were well received.

With its outstanding slightly elevated position and southerly aspect, Parker’s commands panoramic views across a rural landscape, to the East the distant spires of Montrose, South across the undulating countryside to the ancient forest of Montreathmont.

Only two miles south of Brechin (off A933). An ideal base for exploring the secrets of Angus or simply the perfect rural retreat.
