Northern Hotel Accommodation

The Northern Hotel, proudly boasts 15 en suite bedrooms, all sumptuously furnished in neutral materials providing a restful space to relax in. Rooms are well proportioned and benefit from sash and case windows.

Luxury toiletry range Gilchrist & Soames is used throughout the bathrooms providing the epitome of luxury making the Northern a real home from home, and one we are confident you will return to time and time again.

Room facilities include tea/coffee making facilities, SKY television (including SKY sports), free WIFI internet access throughout the hotel (ethernet connection is also available), telephone, hairdryer and iron & ironing boards.

Ballie Restaurant

The Baillie restaurant is the ideal place to meet and catch up with family and friends in a relaxed dining environment. Ian Bowen, our chef selects fresh local produce to offer a delicious menu complimented by daily specials.

Awarded the Eat Scotland accolade since 2007 our kitchen brigade consistently produce a high standard of food which is coupled by friendly and efficient service.

The restaurant is open daily for breakfast lunch & dinner ore perhaps you will pop in for morning coffee and a pastry, we look forward to welcoming you to our Baillie restaurant. Hudson Bar
Hudson’s Bar, a successful complement to the hotel in 2006, provides comfortable surroundings to relax and unwind with friends. The bar shows all major sporting events on wide screen televisions or perhaps you would prefer to listen to your favourite tracks on the Jukebox.

A regular host to top bands and DJ nights, the bar aims to reach out and welcome all age groups. This latest addition compliments the Northern's already renowned facilities.

Created by Nicoll Russell Studios, Hudsons contains a perfect blend of both modern and traditional influences. With a solid walnut floor and paneling, the classic design emminates warmth. A magnificent copper-topped walnut panelled bar, coupled with innovative lighting, and comfortable leather under-lit seating all add to the relaxing and welcoming ambience.

At the Northern Hotel we fully appreciate that your wedding day is going to be as unique as you and your spouse to be. Each couple are treated as if they were our first and we aim to allow you the peace of mind that every last detail, no matter how big or small goes exactly as planned.

Drawing on considerable knowledge and experience the management team is always on hand to give professional advice regarding any aspect of your wedding day, be it stationery, entertainment or wedding etiquette, we would welcome the opportunity to show off our little secret.

The Fraser suite and more intimate Andreson room are decorated in warm neutral tones with comfortable furnishings to ensure an ideal venue to host your wedding.

The oak wood, light from full sash and case windows and natural scheme will complement your bridal party whether you wish to add summer flowers or a winter theme.

The Fraser Suite can comfortably accommodate up to 140 guests whilst the Anderson Room is perfect for smaller ceremonies. We can also arrange for your civil wedding ceremony to take place within the hotel.

The modern and contemporary design of The Northern Hotel's two custom built Meeting & Event rooms are a stylish alternative to other local corporate facilities. Fraser suite - the larger of our 2 rooms can comfortably accommodate up to 140 delegates.

The room has been sympathetically decorated in warm neutral tones and full sash & case windows give the benefit of natural lighting to the room. Anderson room - beautifully appointed, the smaller of our meeting rooms can comfortably accommodate up to 30 people.

Like The Fraser suite, the room benefits from natural daylight and boasts beautiful original fireplace and ornate cornicing. Our flexible spaces can cater for a wide variety of corporate events from private business meetings to large scale banquets and receptions.

The latest state of the art equipment is available on request and there is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. A range of day delegate rates and event packages are available to suit your event specification.

ACTIVITIES
Shooting and Fishing:
We are delighted to welcome guests visiting the area for Shooting. Whether it be accommodation, a tailored dinner or perhaps a great start to the day with our Shooters Breakfast - already popular with local shooting parties.

Your party will be made to feel most welcome supplied with our fine food and warm hospitality. We would be pleased to contact our local estates on your behalf.

Brechin is ideally situated for fishing the Rivers North Esk and South Esk, West Water, Loch Lee and sea fishing. The rivers are noted for excellent salmon and trout fishing between January and October.

Arbroath is the main sea - angling centre, with a number of charter boats operating from the harbour. Brown trout fishing is available on Lunan Water and Rescobie Loch, by Forfar.We would be pleased to contact our local estates on your behalf.

Angus Golf
Planning a golf trip to Angus? Golf can easily be arranged at Edzell, Carnoustie, Downfield, Montrose, Monifieth, Brechin, Forfar and Arbroath.

The Northern Hotel is located in the heart of Angus and is a popular base for playing the top golf courses in the area. The courses on offer are an enjoyable mixture of parkland, heath and links that would satisfy golfers every need.

Brechin Closest to the hotel is Brechin golf course, a relatively flat course which boasts wonderful views of the Grampian mountains. The greens are the outstanding element here, reputedly the best in the county especially on the old Braid section.

5 minutes from Hotel Edzell Golf Club lies at the gateway to the Grampians in the foothills of the Angus Glens. Indeed the mountains form a backdrop to this lovely heathland/parkland course. The course is exceptional, a feisty series of varying challenges in a magnificent setting.

Brechin History
Brechin was once home to the Picts - a Celtic race of people who inhabited this part of Scotland 2000 years ago. This old market town celebrate their life and times at Pictavia, on the outskirts of Brechin, a visitor centre dedicated to their history.

Pictavia is located within a countryside park, the Brechin Castle Centre, which offers a fantastic day out for all the family.

You can also visit the Caledonian Railway, a narrow gauge steam railway running between Brechin and Dun stations, with a connection to take you after a short walk to the House of Dun, the Grand 18th century house designed by William Adam – a National Trust for Scotland property.

The Brechin Round Tower is one of only two surviving such towers in Scotland and is built with accompanying detached stone Cathedral. Brechin Cathedral has magnificent stained glass windows by Edward Burne-Jones. The Old Town House, now a museum, was built in 1789 on the site of the former tollbooth.

The ancient city of Brechin offers countless opportunities for walkers. The heritage trail circles the mediaeval Cathedral and the Round Tower whilst for greater distances you can walk into the countryside to view lime workings, quarries, toll houses, forts and nature trails all surrounded by the beautiful Strathmore scenery.

NEARBY TOWNS
Edzell Village
Edzell village lies to the north of Brechin and is one of the most attractive villages in Scotland, consistently winning prizes for its beauty.

Entry into the village is via the impressive 19th century Dalhousie Arch. Nearby is the spectacular scenery featuring the Rocks of Solitude and Gannochy Bridge, where the salmon leap to their spawning grounds.

Angus
Angus offers plenty of sporting and sightseeing diversions and our staff will be delighted to assist in organising your leisure break.

There are well over 20 golf courses worth playing in the Angus and Dundee area. Here you will find a string of excellent courses along the shores and inland toward the foothills of the Grampian Mountains, offering quality, variety and accessibility.

Hill walkers can discover the beauty and history of the Angus Glens, one of Scotland’s best-kept secrets providing a stunning backdrop for all abilities. The Glens of Isla, Clova, Prosen, Lethnot and Esk are breathtakingly beautiful and unspoilt and include no less than 10 Munros.

Angus aims to provide sustainable angling across all angling sectors. The rivers North and South Esks lie side by side in Angus providing the connoisseur angler with a choice of fishing through spring, summer and autumn runs.

Angus also boasts significant opportunities for sea anglers having fine beaches, spectacular cliff scenery and charter boats. Trout fisheries are prominent in Angus offering excellent facilities often with professional instruction thus providing an ideal introduction to angling.

If shopping is more to your taste visit Dundee, Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Glasgow, all four cities offering a different shopping experience and all commutable.
