The Inns Over-by Accommodation

The Inns Over-by offers the perfect environment where you can unwind and indulge your natural senses within the comfortable setting of first class accommodation. Located on the The Square in Bowmore and adjacent to the harbour, The Inns Over-by is the ideal place to stay when seeking bed and breakfast accommodation on Islay.

Our well appointed bedrooms are of individual character and décor, three of which have superb views across Loch Indaal. We offer a choice of four stylishly refurbished bedrooms, all named after a small selection of birdlife which often frequent our shores namely:

Self catering accommodation
We are pleased to offer a unique opportunity of enjoying the facilities of Islay’s Guest House by the Loch…on a Self Catering basis.

The property was amongst the original settlement buildings within the planned village of Bowmore and has a colourful history as well as an enviable location…being situated adjacent to the harbour and the shores of Loch Indaal.

All rooms are furnished and equipped to a very high standard (Visitscotland 4/5*) and offer some of the best holiday accommodation on Islay. On the ground floor the original floor boards have been retained and the rooms have been beautifully decorated in light modern shades and have the hint of old world colonial tranquility.

The property consists of 4 double en-suite rooms ( 2 of which convert to twin bedded rooms ), Lounge/Dining Room, fully fitted and equipped Kitchen and a Conservatory with breathtaking views across Loch Indaal and towards the Paps of Jura.

This is the perfect location for a group of friends or family who wish to enjoy the very best that Islay has to offer.

Available during the period November to March on a Weekly Rental basis (Sat to Sat) but possibly available for shorter periods, subject to availability.

NOTE:
The Inns Over-by Self Catering Cottage is closed at Christmas but open for Hogmanay (Traditional Scottish New Year celebration).

Activities
Whether your interests are with the island’s beautiful natural environment, the vast numbers of birds and wildlife or the world’s finest single malt whiskies. And of course there are eight working distilleries who welcome visitors with a complimentary dram or two.

The Inns Over-by is the ideal base from which to explore this fine island.

There are many locations of historic interest, some dating back to the Iron Age and others relating to the turbulent times in Scottish history when the "Lords of the Isles" were engaged in contesting ownership of western Scotland.

Interesting visits may include the Museum of Islay Life located in the picturesque conservation village of Port Charlotte where you will also find the Wildlife Field Centre. At the Islay Woollen Mill, near Bridgend, visitors and see an original working mill in action.

Islay is a bird watchers paradise be it the barnacle geese or the elusive corncrake to name but two with over 100 species being present on the island all year round.

Guided bird watching tours are available in conjunction with Islay Birding we can arrange expert guided birdwatching tours….brilliant for beginners – excellent for experts. Due to demand from both professional and amateur photographers we can offer daily expeditions to photograph Islay’s marvellous scenery and wildlife.

We can arrange for you to have access to fantastic sites immediately, without the need for research and have more time to achieve that long awaited image.

The Island of Islay

DIRECTIONS
By Ferry:
Caledonian Macbrayne operate the two hour crossing from Kennacraig, on the northern end of the Mull of Kintyre, which runs twice daily throughout the year with additional sailings during the summer months.

By Air:
British Airways run a scheduled 35 minute service Monday to Saturday from Glasgow International Airport.

Bowmore is virtually in the centre of the island and very easy to reach from both ferry terminals – Port Askaig and Port Ellen - and Islay Airport.The Inns Over-By is located on The Square at the bottom of Main Street, the road leading down from the famous Round Church.
