The local area is renowned for its breathtaking beauty and numerous local attractions and is an excellent place to start if following either the Castle Trail or the Whisky Trail. Within 40 minutes drive there are Crathes Castle (3 miles), Drum Castle (5 miles), Aboyne Castle (15 miles), Dunnottar Castle (15 miles), Craigievar Castle (16 miles) and of course Balmoral Castle (30 miles). These are just a few of the castles in the immediate vicinity as there are too many to list.

Heading West there is the Royal Lochnagar Distillery at Ballater and from there you can turn north to the Tomintoul, Glenlivet, Inver, Glenfarclas and Aberlour Distilleries. To the south there are both the Fettercairn and Glencadam Distilleries within 45 minutes drive.
Banchory Golf Club, only 3 minutes walk from the hotel, is an 18 hole golf course beautifully situated by the River Dee and features one of the shortest par threes in Scotland, "The Doo'cot", at 88 yards.
Inchmarlo Golf Centre, just outside the town and only 4 minutes in the car, has both an 18 hole course, "the Laird's Course" and a small 9 hole course, "The Queen's Course". There are over 20 more golf courses within 40 minutes drive from the hotel.

Situated within the town there are tennis courts, a bowling green, a putting green and a swimming pool and sports centre. Shooting, fishing and hill walking are all available in the immediate area.

Castles
Often referred to as Castle Country, the historic Northeast of Scotland is home to around a thousand castles or castle ruins, providing a wealth of history to explore; from gruesome tales of battles fought, to strolls through romantic family estates.
Coming in all shapes and sizes, each castle holds a different story to tell.
Let your mind wander back through the centuries to imagine just what might have taken place where you now stand, or get lost amongst the beautiful walled gardens where, if you’re lucky, you might come across a traditional tearoom for a spot of delicious home baking.
Aberdeenshire is home to Scotland’s only castle trail; a selection of thirteen unique castles. Experience the romance and history of these restored family castles, ruins and stately homes, by simply following the trail.
With its distinctive white on brown signs and a blue castle logo, which leads you through the heart of Aberdeenshire, it couldn't be a simpler day out.

Fishing
The River Dee is internationally famous for its salmon fishing, and especially so for its multi-sea winter spring salmon, with anglers coming from all over the world to fish it.

In addition to the increasing run of spring fish, the river also provides some excellent summer fishing for salmon, grilse and sea trout.

One of the top four British salmon rivers, the Dee rises in the Cairngorm Mountains from the Wells of Dee and flows over hard worn granite bedrock before cascading over the precipitious Lin of Dee upstream of Braemar.
From there it passes Balmoral, Ballater, Dinnet, Aboyne, Kincardine O'Neil and Banchory before entering the North Sea at Aberdeen over 80 miles from it's source.

Excellent trout fishing is also available in the area and if you are interested in sea angling, coastal fishing villages are less than half an hour away.
Whatever kind of fishing you seek, be assured that all are set in peaceful and beautiful locations.

Golf
Founded in 1905, the original concept of Banchory Golf Club was to provide the villagers of Banchory with a place to play golf. As Banchory has grown so has its golf course and recently the course has been extensively remodeled by renowned Scottish golf course architect John Souter.
Only 3 minutes walk from the hotel and set above the bonnie banks of the Royal river - The River Dee - the picturesque par 69 - 18 hole golf course offers a challenge to golfers of all standards.
Though not over long at 5801 yards - don't be fooled.
Strategically placed bunkers, mature native trees and the "magnetic" River Dee provide obstacles that can test even the most accomplished player.
From one of the shortest holes in Scottish golf, the 88 yards "Doo'cot", to some of the most testing long holes, Banchory Golf Club has something for everyone.

Inchmarlo Golf Club is set in the heart of Royal Deeside amidst the foothills of the Scottish Highlands. Only 4 minutes in the car from the hotel it offers an 18 hole course "The Laird's Course" - 6063 yards par 70, a 9 hole course "The Queen's Course" - 2150 yards par 32 and a 30 bay driving range.
The Laird's Course opened in 2001 and is built in the hills to the west of Banchory. It opened to some acclaim, being recently nominated for the best new course in Britain, putting it in the top 20 new courses in the United Kingdom.
