Built in 1882, the newly-renovated house combines the best of old and new: High ceilings, large windows, and brick fireplaces will make you feel like you have stepped back in history.

Accommodation

The charming, newly-renovated house has 4 guest rooms, with 2 guest bathrooms; a separate private guest entrance and guest living room, with a separate apartment for your host and teacher.

Your room has air-conditioning, satellite TV and a computer with free internet.

No cars are allowed on Sylvan Terrace and you will sleep well at night, forgetting you are in the middle of New York City, with the subway and Broadway just steps away.

Guests are provided towels and bed linen for the duration of their stay. The common areas and bathrooms are cleaned daily, but there is no daily room maid service.

House Rules

For everyone's health, no smoking is allowed anywhere in the house; for everyone's security outside guests are not allowed unless authorized. Guests are asked to lock the door each time leaving or entering the house, keep noise levels down at night, and be respectful of other guests and our neighbors on Sylvan Terrace.

Host and owner Michael Colangelo

He has 27 years experience in the English language study and travel businesses. He is a native New Yorker and a 1979 graduate of Princeton University with a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the Princeton Adult School. He lived in Osaka, Japan for ten years, where he owned a language school and travel agency. He has spent the passt 15 years running a bus company and tour company here in New York City. It has always been his dream to combine his love of travel with his love of language teaching, and now he finally has with Michael NY, where he welcomes traveler-learners of all levels and ages.

Travel time will be 30 minutes.

By Subway

From LaGuardia Airport, take a walk to LaGuardia Internal Roadway/Terminal B. Take M60-SBS towards West Side Bway – 106 Street which will take 8 stops. Drop by West 125 St/Fred Douglass Bl and walk towards 125 Street and take subway towards Inwood – 207 Street which will take 4 stops. Drop by at 163 St - Amsterdam Avenue and walk towards 15 Sylvan Terrace. Head southeast on West 162nd Street toward Saint Nicholas Avenue. Turn right onto Saint Nicholas Avenue. Turn left onto Sylvan Terrace. Destination will be on the left. Travel time will be 1 hour.

Head southeast, Keep left at the fork, follow signs for Parking A/Parking B/Parking C. Slight left toward Newark International Airport Street. Keep left at the fork to continue toward I-78 E. Keep right at the fork, follow signs for Interstate 78 E/Interstate 95/New Jersey Turnpike/Holland Tunnel/New York City. Keep right at the fork, follow signs for I-78 E/I-95/U.S. 1-9 N and merge onto I-78 E. Take the exit toward Interstate 95 N/NJ Turkpike N/Interstate 95 S/NJ Turnpike S.
