Directions to Landmark Guest Rooms

From Port Authority Terminal

Follow the signs that lead to the Subway system. Purchase a Metrocard. Swipe your card and go through the turnstiles then look for signs for the #1 train (the number appears in a red circle.) The signs will lead you through a long, underground tunnel. You are not lost! At the opposite end of the tunnel you will find yourself at the Times Square Station. On your left are two stairwells leading up to the #1, #2, and #3 trains. The far stairwell takes you to the Uptown trains. Board the local train, #1, that arrives on the left track on this platform until you reach the 116th Street Station (10 stops).

From Grand Central Station

The "S" or "Shuttle" train connects the Grand Central and Times Square Subway stations. Take this shuttle to Times Square and look for signs for the #1 train. Make sure to board the Uptown #1 train and proceed to the 116th Street Station (Columbia University). You can also board the M104 bus outside Grand Central on 42nd Street, which will take you to Broadway and 120th Street, one block from Union’s main entrance. This will be a longer trip than the subway. City buses require exact change ($2.25) for entry or a Metrocard. Change cannot be made on the bus.

From Pennsylvania Station

Penn Station is a bit of a maze. You will likely exit your train into the main waiting area, which you can recognize by the huge board announcing arrivals and departures. On the west side of this area are Amtrak and New Jersey Transit ticket booths. Walk in the opposite direction, past a pair of escalators and into an aisle of storefronts. After about 20 yards, you will find an escalator on your left; go down this escalator. You will find yourself in the main waiting area for the Long Island Railroad. Make a right past the LIRR ticket booths and keep going to what appears to be the corner of the waiting area. You will find Metrocard machines for the Subway. After swiping your card and going through the turnstiles, take the stairs to the Uptown #1 train. Take this train for 11 stops until you reach the 116th Street Station (Columbia University).

From La Guardia Airport

There are several ways to get to Union from LaGuardia. The most convenient is by taxi, but this will cost you almost $30 in good traffic and more in slow traffic. City law requires that you pay, in advance, for the $3.50 toll at the Triboro Bridge. A very good alternative is the Transit Authority's M60 bus that leaves every half hour from LaGuardia and stops almost directly in front of Union. City buses require exact change ($2.25) for entry. Change cannot be made on the bus. Commercial buses, such as "Carey," connect all the major airports to Grand Central and Port Authority.

From JFK Airport

The most convenient transportation from JFK is by taxi. It is very expensive (approximately $45) but will get you to Union quickly. Buses and the AirTran are available to take you from the terminals to the Subway. Board the "A" train at the Howard Beach stop. This train will take you all the way into Manhattan, a 45-minute ride. Stay on the A train until you get to 59th Street (Columbus Circle) Station. Change here to the #1 train going uptown. Stay on this train until you reach the 116th Street Station (Columbia University).

From Newark Airport

A taxi from Newark can be very expensive. One can take a "Carey" bus to Port Authority Terminal or the “Air-train” to Penn Station and then take the subway or a taxi. See above for information regarding travel to Union from Port Authority or Penn Station
