Rio Azul Lodge is located on the banks of the Govuro River in Mozambique, Africa. Rio Azul, meaning “Blue River”, overlooks the estuary and is about 2km from the Govuro River mouth. The lodge faces west and enjoys spectacular sunsets in a quiet and peaceful setting. Rio Azul offers luxury lodge accommodation including six twin chalets and two luxury villas which sleep six adults and six children. Each villa has its own swimming pool and is situated along pristine beach shores. Rio Azul specialises in family and fishing holidays.

The lodge also offers good bird watching opportunities, kayaking and snorkeling to name but a few of the lodge’s beach holiday activities. We also offer a great fine dining experience and luxurious facilities.

The Govuro River runs north from Vilanculos and past Inhassoro and enters the sea at Bartholomew Diaz point, at the northern end of the Bazaruto Archipelago.

Rio Azul Lodge‘s main area consists of a lounge, dining room, bar area with a big wooden deck in front and a plunge pool. The view from the 31-foot bar is possibly one of the most spectacular in Africa, overlooking the Guvoru River during sunsets.
Rio Azul Lodge has a small shop that sells items such as batteries, sun block, fishing shirts, sunglasses, hats, lures, line and other fishing tackle. The lodge has electricity supplied by a generator and plug points for charging camera batteries etc. The beach lodge accommodation consists of six thatched luxury chalets and two luxury villas.

Beach Front Chalets
We offer 6 Beach Front Chalets, each chalet consists of a Twin Bedroom with two ¾ beds. Each Chalet also has a pull roll out bed for children under 16 yrs. Each Chalet has a beach front view with a view of spectacular sunsets over the beach, estuary and sea.

Beach Front Villa
We offer 2 Beach Front Villas, each Villa consists of three double bedrooms, sleeping a maximum of six adults as well as loft with three bunk beds for children under 16 yrs.
Each of the Rio Azul Lodge Villas has its own private deck with a swimming pool, seating that includes beach chairs and a dining room table with a spectacular view off sunsets over the beach and sea.
The Rio Azul Lodge Villas have Kitchens fitted with Stove, Microwave, Kettle, Toaster and other amenities that you might require during your stay. The Rio Azul Lodge Villas have large lounge areas that offer ample seating for all visitors.

Where is Rio Azul?
The best way to access Rio Azul is by airplane. The nearest airport is Vilanculos from where we arrange transfers to the lodge. We do accommodate drive in clients, but the condition of Mozambique's roads is rather bad.
The beach resort overlooks an estuary and is about 2km from the river mouth. The Govuro River mouth is 110km north of Vilanculos, Mozambique, Africa. The Govuro River runs north from Vilanculos and past Inhassoro and enters the sea at Bartholomew Diaz point, at the northern end of the Bazaruto Archipelago.
