Places to stay in IngramIf you like your ancient history, visit the Breamish Valley - it has been described as one of the most important archaeological landscapes in the country. The valley is dotted with ancient Neolithic and Bronze aged settlements, some of which are estimated to be more than 2,500 years old. The area is still visited and investigated by archaeologists looking for clues to the past in its hillforts and burial mounds. The Breamish and Ingram Valley's main settlement is Ingram, a pretty hamlet that is home to a small but friendly community. Within the Ingram Valley you will find the Northumberland National Park Visitor Centre, where you can get valuable advice on places to stay and things to do in this isolated but beautiful valley. There are several hill walks that take in the area's ancient forts and settlements and on a sunny day you can pack a picnic and walk to nearby Linhope Snout, a 60 feet waterfall popular with ramblers. On the way there look out for red squirrels and Hedgehope Hill, a domed summit that is Northumberland's second highest hill at 714m. |
