Highfield House B&B, and adjoining self catering Highfield Cottage, are wonderful stone built properties nestled within 2.5 acres of mature grounds and woodland. They are impeccably furnished throughout and the gardens are magical with many rare and beautiful flowers and a huge variety of birds. Highfield House and Cottage are found a mile from Whittonstall and only 2 miles from the northern edge of Derwent Reservoir, set within the beautiful Pennine valley near to the Durham and Northumberland border.

Owner, Caroline Zuch, offers guests a warm welcome into this wonderful family home, alongside husband Martin, three children and Basil, the cat. Caroline is committed to providing friendly, unobtrusive but excellent service, keeping an eye on small details, to ensure that you have a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Bed and Breakfast 5 Stars
Offering luxury bed & breakfast accommodation, the spacious, elegantly furnished bedroom with 6ft bed is completed by a large ensuite bathroom with huge freestanding bath and walk in shower. Soft fluffy towels and bathrobes enhance the comfort of your stay. Wifi and office facilities are available in the guests private sitting room. Guests are invited to make full use of the extensive gardens and woodland, exhibiting a wide variety of rare flowers and trees.

Fresh locally produced breakfast, is served in the dining or sunroom, or even outside if the weather allows it.

Whether on business or leisure, you will find us the perfect place from which to explore Northumberland, County Durham and the North Pennines.


Highfield Cottage 4 Star Gold
Adjoining the impressive Highfield House and nestled within 2.5 acres of mature grounds and woodland this delightful stone built cottage has been newly renovated to offer stylish accommodation in a tranquil and picturesque setting.

The accommodation comprises a first floor, large kingsize bedroom with adjoining sitting area (suitable for a cot or spare mattress) and its own toilet and basin. The ground floor has a large sitting room (TV, DVD, CD), second twin bedroom, bathroom with freestanding bath and walk in shower, kitchen (Fridge, freezer, electric cooker, toaster, microwave, kettle, coffee machine etc) and shared laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities.

Bed linen and towels are included in the price and the cottage is thoroughly cleaned between each rental. The ground floor bedroom, bathroom and kitchen make it accessible for everyone. The cottage has its own entrance and driveway with plenty of parking and several ground level access doors.

Children most welcome - cot; changing mat and highchair available. Dogs are welcome to stay in the kitchen and there is also an outdoor, semi-covered kennel in the garden.

Activities & Area
Ramblers and cyclists will enjoy exploring the heather moorlands with rugged uplands which includes some of the highest, wildest and most beautiful scenery in the country.Hamsterley Forest provides miles of lovely forest walks leading to High Force; England's largest waterfall.

We are 5 miles from De Vere Slaley Hall and 10 miles from Matfen Hall both offering excellent golf; swimming and spa facilties as well as a "Go Ape" adventure course at Matfen.

The historic market town of Hexham, dominated by its majestic Abbey offers an abundance of amenities (including cinema; theatre; major supermarkets) only 14 miles and the pretty village of Corbridge renowned for its specialist shops and quaint tea rooms is 11 miles. Durham, Bowes Museum, Raby Castle, Beamish Museum, Vindolanda, the Roman Site at Corstopitum and Housesteads Roman Fort Museum at Hadrians Wall are all interesting historic attractions within easy driving distance.

The vibrant city of Newcastle, well-known for its global and cultural pursuits and the extensive shopping facilities at Gateshead Metro Centre along with the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the Baltic Centre and the Sage Gateshead music venue are only 16 miles east.

Kielder Forest and Water Park within an hour's drive offers all sorts of water sports and activities including cycle hire; mountain biking; zip wire; fishing; walking; horse riding.

The immediate area also benefits from various excellent farm shops; cafes and local artists' galleries.
