Places to stay in Callington
A small ancient market town with a population of nearly 6000 situated in a beautiful area of south east Cornwall, England’s most westerly county. It is internationally famous for its Honey Fair and Mural trail. Callington has been in existence for many centuries but saw its first great expansion during the mining boom of the 19th Century. The centre of the town is a conservation area and this has preserved much of the vernacular architecture of that time as well as earlier examples, the most noteworthy being the parish church, St. Mary's. Callington is situated in the middle of East Cornwall, only a short distance from the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within sight of Bodmin Moor. Another moorland area is Kit Hill which overlooks the town. Surrounding the town are miles of quiet lanes with high Cornish banks that are a haven for wildlife. Where these are broken by gateways panoramic views are often revealed. There are numerous places to visit in the area. If you appreciate our country's heritage there is a wealth of sites within and around the town. There are also sites within a short distance of the town, Dupath Well, Holmbush Mine, Kit Hill, Morwhellam Quay and the Tamar Valley, etc. If it’s countryside, tranquility and splendid landscape you only have a short walk out of town.
