Access to this luxury private lodge is only by a pre-arranged boat transfer from Drotsky’s Cabins. Xaro Lodge is a must-visit if you are a birding enthusiast. Species that are spotted regularly include the Pel’s Fishing owl, skimmers, carmines, egrets, herons, kingfisher and boubous.

Besides the prolific number of bird species in the Shakawe region of Botswana, Xaro Lodge ensures that you won’t have to share your viewing space with throngs of other tourists.

The river also boasts 17 species of fish, most notable the tigerfish and bream. Xaro Lodge offers boating cruises that guarantee sightings of hippo, crocs and sitatunga.
