The Henry Jones Art Hotel is a fusion of history and modernity, art and design, indulgence and discovery. Australia’s first dedicated art hotel, The Henry Jones merges one of Tasmania’s most significant industrial heritage sites—H. Jones and Co. Pty. Ltd. IXL—with modern design and contemporary art to create a luxurious accommodation experience.

The Henry Jones is Australia’s first dedicated art hotel, and one of a handful of art hotels in the world.

Created within Hobart’s oldest waterfront warehouses, the Henry Jones Art Hotel merges historic and modern, blending the original 19th century architecture of the city with ultra-modern design and contemporary art.

The Henry Jones Art Hotel

Art and design are woven into the fabric of the Henry Jones. The hotel partners with a diverse range of Tasmanian artists to present a continuously changing exhibition of over 400 artworks. Every space is a canvas for artistic expression—from the art itself to exquisite furniture design and award-winning architectural elements—creating a singular environment and experience in which art is the focus.

The hotel’s 56 individually designed rooms and suites reflect Henry Jones’ characteristic fusion of art, heritage, tradition and nature. Sleek modernity complements untouched heritage features, nineteenth century sandstone walls frame contemporary artworks, and original windows reveal views of Hobart’s harbour, city, mountains and built history. Coupled with the Henry Jones Art Hotel’s award-winning restaurants and bars, prime waterfront location and easy access to Hobart’s best attractions, we offer an unparalleled experience that is far more than just five star luxury accommodation.

Every individually designed room and suite at the Henry Jones possesses its own character, and tells its own chapter of the Henry Jones story. Historic and contemporary qualities are finely balanced—original heritage features are celebrated and complemented by innovative design elements, hand cut sandstone walls hold compelling works of modern art, and rough-hewn timbers frame sparkling views of the harbour and city.

THE H JONES SUITE

The H Jones Suite is located in what was once the stately boardroom of H.Jones and Co. IXL Jam. Rebuilt in the early 1900s in art nouveau style, the administration offices of Henry Jones’ thriving company were a statement of success—soaring Tasmanian blackwood ceilings and glossy wall panelling, a grand main staircase and sunlight-infused glass skylights.

Now, the H Jones Suite welcomes you with quiet elegance and undeniable style. Soak in the ambience of this stunning suite and its collection of original art from your king-sized bed, or immerse in the Kohler SOK overflowing spa bath.

A 21st century reimagining of the traditional bathing ritual, the SOK Overflowing Spa by Kohler creates the ultimate soaking experience. Completely submerged in this ultra-deep, tranquil pool, your body will become lightly buoyant and embraced by warmth.

Add the sensory pleasure of champagne-like bubbles and the delicate sound of flowing water and the result is total relaxation.

ORIENTAL SUITES

Located within the original Henry Jones Ice House, and designed with a distinctly Asian feel, the Oriental Suites evoke a sense of serene harmony.

Traditional Japanese design elements have been subtly incorporated in these rooms through carefully selected fabrics and furnishings placed tastefully alongside the earthy industrial elements of the room’s original architecture.

European-style stainless steel and translucent glass bathrooms are complemented by the room’s centerpiece—a completely luxurious Kohler SOK Overflowing Spa. These very spacious suites present close views of Hobart’s harbour or the forested slopes of Mount Wellington.

PEACOCK TERRACE

The Peacock Terrace once formed part of the original home of Jam Factory founders George and Margaret Peacock, and was later Sir Henry Jones’ private residence. The 1823 terrace is now the oldest standing building on ‘Old Wharf’ and houses Tasmania’s earliest spiral staircase.

A suite inspired by the history of Hobart’s settlement, the private and tranquil Peacock Terrace offers two elegant bedrooms, sitting room and kitchenette housed over two floors.

The artwork selected for the Peacock Terrace interprets and reflects on the settlement of Hobart and the rich culture and history of this city. Your waterfront view frames the original landing site of Hobart’s first European settlers—now colourful Sullivan’s Cove and the city of Hobart, stretching towards the lush foothills of Mount Wellington.
