Tara Guest House is an alternative option to the usual Sydney bed & breakfast. It offers guests a gracious and stylish place to stay in the Enmore Newtown area of Sydney, within easy and convenient reach of Circular Quay.

We are very close to Sydney and UTS Universities with a great choice of restaurants literally around the corner, as is Sydney's iconic Enmore theatre, home of the best local and international acts to come to Sydney - even the Rolling Stones have played here.

Rooms are seriously generous in size, each with its own character.

Think faded glory outside as per Venice and Firenze with clean creative spaces therein, tall ceilings with French doors opening onto large verandahs - More Corbusier than Chippendale, not too twee, not too quiet, more boho than 5 star, more artist's digs than the Hilton or a cottage in the country!

It has to be said that we offer an urban experience as per Soho, New York, rather than a sojourn in an English rural setting. This is comfortable, informal accommodation and our guests are many and varied including businesspeople, academics, travellers of all ages from home and abroad, architects, writers, musicians, actors and other creative souls with an eye to the good life.

There are four rooms available, one suite downstairs with its own dedicated bathroom, three upstairs, one with a generous en-suite and two sharing the luxurious marble bathroom.

The downstairs suite has two rooms, each 25 square metres with the bedroom having a queen upholstered bed. This room is linked by high double folding doors to the private sitting room which has a sofa bed that opens to a comfortable double bed with an inner spring mattress.

It also has a piano for the musically inclined. Both rooms have marble fireplaces and the bedroom has double French doors onto the verandah and has its own dedicated bathroom down the hall.

The upstairs gallery room is 35 square metres with a stainless steel queen four poster bed and has a comfortable sitting area. It also looks out over the front garden and has a collection of life drawings, paintings and prints. This room has a generous sized ensuite bathroom.

The upstairs front room is 27.5 square metres, has a queen four poster bed and a sofa that can be made into a three quarter bed. This room looks out across the verandah to the leafy front garden.

The out back upstairs room at 30 square metres, is very light and airy and has sweeping distance views from the south western suburbs across to the ridge line of the Royal National Park. It has a modern queen bed and is large enough to include a small sitting room. Both these rooms share a beautiful marble bathroom.

Directions to Tara Guest House

Tara is ideally located on Edgeware Road near the intersection of Enmore Road which is the beginning of a wonderful strip of cafes, restaurants, bars, speciality shops, art galleries, great secondhand shops and of course the Enmore Theatre.

Enmore is next door to Newtown and it is worth noting that there are more book stores in this part of town than in any other. Just to get an idea of the diverse range of restaurants between here and King Street there are Australian fusion, Indian, Portuguese, Turkish, Lebanese, Greek, Italian, Israeli, Vietnamese, African and the ever present Thai.

Recommended eateries include Russo & Russo, Bloodwood, Hartsyard, Rubyo's, La Ricetta, and great Indian food at Delhi 'O' Delhi nearby in Erskineville. We also have our own micro brewery called Young Henry's which is just off Enmore Road.
