Hotel Hotel

Hotel Hotel

Hotel Hotel is a collaboration between designers, artists, artisans and fantasists. We love hotels, not for their swank but for reminding us of our transience and the importance of romance. We like textures and patinas that remind us of the bush, big trees, well worn t-shirts and old wise faces that in every line reflect the enormity and joy of a life well lived. We treasure simple human interactions and making every day experiences interesting and special.

Rooms

Our rooms have taken inspiration from the Australian shack. Clay rendered walls, salvaged oak beds, overhead rain showers, and (oh my) windows that open. Each room has been dressed with carefully chosen artworks, objects and restored furniture. They reflect our love for the well made, the curious and the comfortable.

Abutting rooms can also be connected to form a suite. All our accessibility rooms are Original rooms. The maximum occupancy is for two adults, unless you opt for a rollaway bed as well.

Eat and Drink

Monster kitchen and bar Sean McConnell is taming the beast out the back with a yabby jaffle, Michael Gray is placating it with a Lark Hill Pinot Noir out the front, and Chester Mok is trying to distract it with the smell of a violet gin.

Mocan & Green Grout The original favourite. Fair-trade coffee, produce sourced from local farmers, herbs grown in the planter at the front door – they deliver on their passion for all things local. Breakfast and lunch menus are seasonal and local (if you hadn’t already guessed) and the ever changing dinner menu is a collection of shared dishes inspired by diverse cooking traditions. BYO only (which you can get down the road at TwentyOne Cafe and Groceries).

A.Baker Despite the name A. Baker is not just a bakery… It’s also a restaurant serving bistro style food and an underground speakeasy. The restaurant works hard to serve up food made from as local ingredients as possible – its signature bread is made from organic milled wheat, the coffee is roasted by its owners, many of the vegetables are grown on the owner’s own land and they have a pastry chef. Enough said.

A.Baker Speakeasy The moody little A.Baker basement bar serves an impressive range of spirits and a good dose of domestic distillations. Their cocktails are well-made classic variations using excellent Australian spirits, fresh seasonal produce and house-made ingredients. They have three craft beers, one cider and a seasonal wine list of the picks from the Canberra region. Oysters and charcuterie are available from the kitchen until late, and live performances and sets are a happily regular feature.

Hotel Hotel

Parlour Wine Room The Parlour Wine Room is a hoard of beautiful antiques, excellent jazz and a great service culture all combining to deliver a European 1920s-inspired dining experience. Enjoy central European food and Spanish tapas, desserts (served late into the evening), cocktails, and an extensive wine list. Don’t forget the lunch service.

Bicicletta Bicicletta is open for dinners it specialises in simple and traditional Italian food. Homemade pastas complemented by an ever-changing selection of traditional and modern sauces. A small number of meat and fish dishes round out the menu. And pizza.

TwentyOne Cafe and Groceries TwentyOne is open for breakfast, lunch and brunch. And they are also a grocery store to get all the important things like wine and chocolate and toilet paper. And they have an ATM. It’s all very convenient.

Conferencing and Venues

The Mosaic Room Is adjacent to Hotel Hotel’s secret garden and fire place. It is an extension of our main lobby bar and lounge area. The space offers privacy, a soaring ceiling flooded with natural light and a contemporary feel. It has an outdoor terrace with double hung sash windows. Featured artworks include a mosaic installation of tiles made by the late Gerard Havekes, wall paintings by Al Stark and a giant piece by Dutch artist Rik Meijers. The secret garden and fireplace can be included in the venue hire as a pre-function space at your request.

Boardrooms We’ve found some kind folk to help out for those that need corporate facilities for important meetings. Our friends at Servcorp have made two boardrooms available to us in the Nishi Commercial building. It’s just an elevator ride away. One room sits up to ten people and the other 16. They can be booked by the hour or all day, they have coffee and tea facilities, and we can cater for any other (more elaborate) needs through the Monster kitchen and bar.

Kendall Lane Theatre Is an impeccable theatrette. The intimate space is perfect for business seminars, film screenings, product launches. The theatrette is fully equipped with state-of-the-art projection and surround sound technology. Set amongst the restaurants and cafés of NewActon, it’s just a step away from any post screening dinner or wine time you might have planned.

The Nishi Gallery Seamlessly incorporates the inside and surrounding gardens. The Nishi Gallery and it’s surrounding landscape were designed simultaneously by OCULUS and hungerford + edmunds architects. The end result is a beautiful blurring of boundaries of the gallery inside and the gardens outside. These garden views, the gallery’s high ceilings and raw industrial finishes, and the exhibited artworks of local artists make it a calming and quirky backdrop for all types of events. The gardens is accessed via the gallery’s sliding door and can be included in this venue hire. The gardens feature two beautiful Chinese elm trees, red yukkas, ornamental pear trees, Mexican lilies, and a lovely lawn. The space also has a kitchenette.

Hotel Hotel

A. Baker Has a number of spaces available for exclusive hire. The A.Baker artisan bakery specialises in slow fermented sourdough and pastries; and head chef Bernd Brademann’s kitchen is all about supporting local producers and serving uncomplicated cuisine. Whichever space you decide on you will be catered to by this talented team of foodies. The A.Baker speakeasy is a moody little underground bar perfect for daytime functions, breakfast and lunch get togethers, and morning and afternoon teas – this is available for exclusive use for breakfast and lunch seven days. The inside space at A.Baker gets you closer to the open kitchen action. It is light filled and features beautifully textured walls. The eastern courtyard is where you can take advantage of the sun and garden.
