Our Sydney hostel was built in 1894, but now brings a modern funky feel to the grand stylings of another era. Whether you're staying to explore Sydney or just stopping overnight, Elephantbacker offers a pleasurable experience and friendly atmosphere that can't be beaten!

All over the hostel you'll find other travellers roaming the halls, from the open air rooftop , open daily for sun worshippers and the bottom floor where guests mingle amongst the lobby, kitchen, dining hall, and computer rooms. The staff are happy to assist in helping to ensure that your stay is fun and excitng, and hopfully you will leave with heaps of new friends and awsome memories.

Cafe, bar & pizzeria has opened. Enjoy our funky new Cafe/Bar where you can meet your friends, eat a meal or just relax with a coffee or beer while sending all those long awaited emails to family and friends.

1 Double Bed Private Room

Our double bed room consists of a private room containing a tribunk. A tribunk has a double bed mattress on the bottom of the bunk and a single mattress on the top bunk. The room also contains lockers and a television. Bathroom facilities, toilet and showers, are shared and are located at the end of the corridor.

All our private rooms are located on the 3rd floor on the Crown Street side of the building. It is very quiet and the floor has lift access.

2 Bed Private Room

Our two bed twin is a private room, like the double, consisting of a tribunk. Therefore one guest has a double mattress that is located on the bottom bunk, and the other guest has a single mattress located on the top bunk.

Our twin rooms are also located on the 3rd floor which is very quiet and available via lift access. Shared bathroom facilities are located at the end of the corridor. Twin rooms have a television and lockers. Your bed has been made up by our housekeepers for you.

4 Bed Mixed Dorm

Our 4 bed dorms consist of two bunks.

Each of our rooms have a double hung window, fan and lockers. Each bunk is made up by our housekeepers with a mattress protector and sheet. You collect your top sheet and pillow from reception when you check in. Blankets are also available from reception for no extra charge.

6 Bed Female Dorm

Our 6 bed female dorms have 3 bunk beds. Each room has a swipe key card or uses keys therefore you are safe and secure. The dorm has a locker for each guest, window with venetian blind for privacy and reading light per bunk.

Female toilets and female showers are located on each floor. Our toilets are enclosed cubicles and our showers are for females only.

6 Bed Mixed Dorm

Our 6 bed mixed dorm consists of 3 bunk beds in a generous sized room. Each room has a locker for each guest, a bed light and a ceiling fan. These dorm rooms are very popular as they are not as crowded as an 8 bed dorm but obviously not as expensive a 4 bed dorm.

8 Bed Mixed Dorm

8 bed dorms consist of 4 bunks in our very large dorm rooms. Each 8 bed dorm has a window which can be opened to let in plenty of fresh air.

Our dorms have lockers for each guest, each bunk has a reading light and the room also has a ceiling fan. So if you want to lower the cost of your travel and are social - this style of room is for you.

Double Bed in 4 bed dorm

If there are two of you and you would prefer a double bed but do not want the expense of a private room - try our double bed in a 4 bed dorm.

This consists of a double bed located on the bottom bunk of a tribunk, located in a 4 bed dorm. So there will be the two of you, plus another 3 guests in the room. Please note our double bed does not have privacy curtains around the bunk. Our 4 bed dorm is spacious, has a locker for each guests and a reading light.

Woolloomooloo Elephant Backpackers is just 10 minutes’ walk from Hyde Park and 15 minutes’ from shopping at Pitt Street Mall. It is 10 minutes’ bus ride from Sydney Opera House or 15 minutes’ bus ride from Bondi Beach.
